Enamel earrings

This course on enamel earrings is a quick intro to enameling. Will will discuss sifting and wet laying the enamel on the metal. Enamel is powdered glass that is heated with a kiln or a torch to achieve a beautiful color. Each student will learn how to cut and form the metal to create the shapes. Students will also learn how to use rivets or other cold connections to attach pieces of metal to each other. We will explore multiple ways of designing an ear wire to complete the pieces.This is class is open to all skill levels, there will be demonstrations, and plenty of work time.

MaineGeneral's Harm Reduction Program leads training and conversation on Overdose Response and Narcan Administration. The presentation will begin by discussing what harm reduction means, and what opioids are, before identifying what an opioid overdose looks like. The training will then discuss steps for responding to an overdose, and close with a conversation about the Good Samaritan Law. Attendees are invited to ask any questions and/or share experiences throughout.

Building on the skills that are acquired in the iPad Basics class, the primary focus of the intermediate class is the exploration of the applications that Apple provides for free as part of the iOS. Applications such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Messages, FaceTime and many others will be covered. If time allows, favorite Apps from the App Store will be presented. There are three one-hour sessions for this class.

Prerequisite for this class is participation in the iPad Basics class or equivalent knowledge. 

Please bring your iPad to all three classes.  

 

Maine Driving Dynamics

Maine Driving Dynamics is a Maine-sponsored five-hour defensive driving course that offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving skills. The course includes a discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. It is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in a format that engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation. Those completing the course will receive a 3-point credit on their driving record. Students 55 and older can receive an insurance discount from their insurer.

New to Gardening in Maine

Maine can be a challenging place to garden. Our season is short. Our soil is questionable. If we didn’t have rocks, we wouldn’t have anything to stand on! Still, Maine is a wonderful place to garden. Come to this class to learn what we can grow and when, where many resources are, how to get a soil test and what gardening by the sea is like. Learn about our native plants, weather cycles, soils, pests, and local resources. It will be a good place to start, so bring your questions!

Estate Planning – Prepare for the Uncertainties of Life and Revocable Trusts & Irrevocable Trusts – Are They Right for You?

This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, etc. The class will then delve into, learning how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can protect your assets from nursing home or Maine Care (Medicaid) liens.  Discussion will include other strategies to safeguard assets from life events such as business failure or divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell is a lawyer in York, Maine and has been practicing for 31 years. Her practice focuses on estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matters.
