Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) are healthcare  professionals who provide intimate, hands-on healthcare to patients in medical settings under the supervision of a  Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Certified Nurses Assistant-M The (CNA-M) Program is a standardized, 120-hour medication course approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing, which provides the basis of understanding needed for CNAs to administer medications accurately and safely. The course is designed to teach experienced CNAs how to administer non-injectable medications to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered nurse. Providing excellent patient care, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must to becoming a CNA-M.

SAGE - Standardized Patient Training

with Barbara Blackstone, MSAD#1 Adult & Community Education

*SAGE membership is REQUIRED for enrollment in this class.

A standardized patient is an individual who is trained to be a patient for nursing students, social work students, PTA students and others.  We will provide standardized patients with a brief overview of an illness or injury they will be “acting out” along with a history of the focused illness and common signs and symptoms – your involvement will provide a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with a real person and facilitate the development of interpersonal skills in a controlled environment.  This provides students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom in a one-on-one patient interaction in the university's new simulation lab.

*If you are interested in this we will contact you with more details.

The Teen Brain

with UGot Class, MSAD#1 Adult & Community Education

One of the most turbulent periods in brain development occurs during adolescence. The teen brain actually functions very differently from the adult brain. Certain kinds of thinking, such as decision-making, actually happen in different parts of the brain for adolescents and adults.

Understanding these complex changes can help calm the rough seas of the teen years, but also provide your teen with critical support and understanding that will promote better decision-making, better mental health, and better outcomes at school.

Come find out the important ways in which the teen brain is developing. Identify behaviors and attitudes that are influenced by these changes. Then learn to offer constructive strategies for establishing a better understanding of and communication with your amazing teen.
