Basic Life Support - May 8, 2024

In this one-night training, learn the essentials of recognizing respiratory and cardiac arrest and effectively beginning emergency treatment. Participants will learn CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Students will need to pick up and review the BLS Provider Manual prior to class so that they are prepared for an open-book test at the end of the training.
Note: The tuition helps defray the cost of renting the computerized mannikins and AED trainers.
Fix a Bike - MS

Join us for a bike maintenance workshop for Teens and Adults. Areyou curious about bicycle mechanics? Would you like to maintain your bike better, do repairs yourself, or get your bike ready for spring? Would you like to be better prepared to fix break downs when you are out on the road? Bring your bike and tool kit, if you have one. A parent or guardian must accompany students 13-16years. Please make a donation by cash or check if you are able to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine at the beginning of class cash or check or via their website www.bikemaine.org/donate. Rain date will be Thursday, May 16. When registering please mark this date on your calendar just in case it rains on May 8. Limit 18 students.

Stretch and Tone Session 2

(running for 7+ years)-This course is a low-impact, full-body workout to help tone muscles, increase range of motion, mobility and flexibility and help reduce stress. You will move through a series of stretching and toning exercises that will elongate and strengthen muscles. No experience is necessary. Bring a mat for floorwork and light hand-held weights or 2 filled up water bottles to use during the toning section.
Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of Maine and the Northeast (Presentation)

Join self-proclaimed "mushroom Maineiac" David Spahr and get the inside information on the wild mushrooms of the Northeast. Edible and medicinal mushrooms represent an opportunity for sustainably foraging and enjoying healthy, locally sourced food and present a potential for health benefits beyond good nutrition. This presentation will cover finding, collecting, identifying and preparing the safe and common edible and medicinal mushroom species of Maine, New England, and Eastern Canada. Nature enthusiasts, cooks, foragers, herbalists, and others will enjoy and benefit from David's expertise. Topics will include matching species with appropriate foods, discovering mushrooms that contain unique medicinal properties, and exploring information about dyeing fabrics and paper. David's book, Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of New England and Eastern Canada, will be available.
Introduction to Pickleball

Join us here at the Telstar High School Gym for this four week session learning to play this fun and extrememly popuar sport! No experience? No problem. This class is for those with no experience or with limited experience. Learn the rules of the game, how scoring works, all while you play.
Pickleball is a cross between tennis and ping-pong and has been dubbed as the "sport for everybody". With minimal running, pickleball allows older players to be just as competitive as younger "fitter" players. So, no need to fear that your age will limit you!
Just bring yourself and a fun and curious spirit. All the equipment will be provided. Please wear comfortable sneakers and appropriate gym clothes.
When: Wednesdays starting May 8th.

During this class you will hit multiple muscle groups and burn calories in a workout that is designed to strengthen the cardiovascular system, tone muscles and boost balance, flexibility and endurance. Everyone can work at their own pace and fitness level. There will be progressions and regressions for each exercise. The goal is to leave sweaty, with a smile and feeling empowered! Please bring your own exercise mat and a set of hand weights. Water is also highly encouraged!

Hatha Yoga for Older Adults

This gentle in nature class, is a "how-to-do yoga" break down! Get familiar with the poses, learn correct alignment for safety and stability while incorporating breathing techniques for mindfulness, reducing stress, and improving over all wellness. This is a non-flow class, taking our time to build awareness and balance the body. Bring: yoga mat, 2 blocks and strap.
