Autumn Seaweed Eats

On the first night participants will receive an introduction to the many varieties of seaweed and their unique flavor and nutrition profiles plus we’ll create a little seaweed snack, have a ‘Cup of Sea’ tea and take a tour of the MCSV facility. The second evening we’ll concoct a multi-course meal incorporating sea vegetables into recipes using items from Fall's garden harvest--like a baked seaweed stuffed squash. Bring your take-home containers and a healthy appetite!

Hip Opener Workshop

This workshop is designed to loosen and stretch the hip joint so that movement in that area is easier and less tense. We will combine some restorative yoga poses with some that will increase flexibility and strengthen the body (especially the hip joints). Much of what we cover can be done at home after the workshop so you can continue opening the hips and leg muscles on your own. All equipment will be provided for you. Information learned through yoga classes and workshops should not be considered a substitute for medical advice.

Reiki is a Japanese based, hands-on healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes natural healing. Learn how to use your hands to bring comfort and healing to yourself and others. Reiki balances and energizes all systems of the body and facilitates the relief of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms. It heals from the root cause and is compatible with all healing methods. This class will include what Reiki is, the history, and how it works. There will be ample time for hands-on practice. Students must attend all four sessions in order to receive full Reiki certification. Limit 8 students

ONLINE -one night workshop

In just a few hours, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment. Learn to play piano the way professionals do—using chords. Since this class is being held online using Zoom, you will be able to sit at your piano or keyboard at home and take this course with no pressure at all. And since the class includes an online book and online follow-up video lessons, you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional online question/answer session and a recording of the class are included as well. The course is partly lecture/demonstration and partly hands-on instruction. Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it, how to form the three main types of chords, how to handle different keys and time signatures, how to avoid “counting,” and how to simplify over 12,000 complex chords. Class limited to 15 students.

Family & Individual Care Strategies plus Resources for Aging in Place

This online, live class will cover Elder Care/Aging in Place, Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Falls and Safety, and finally Community Resources (that you don’t know are there until you need them) for four sessions.  The sessions will consist of a 45-minute presentation followed by 15 minutes for questions. Additional resources will be shared online and/or sent via email.

The focus of this course is to help families and individuals navigate the aging process as independently as possible. In this day and age there are limited or no extended families nearby and, in Hancock County there are limited facilities for care and recovery.

The goal of these informational sessions is to help aging adults and their adult children be more knowledgeable about how they, or their family member can remain safe, healthy, and at home as long as possible.

Christine Mild has been a Physical Therapist for the last 29 years. She is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. Christine's extensive knowledge of geriatrics, homecare, and health & wellness for the aging population allows for her to share with you and your family ways of keeping healthy and aging in place at home. She has worked exclusively on MDI for the last 22 years and has close ties within the community.

You will be sent a Zoom link closer to the start date.

Family members may join the registrant on the same computer.

Heartsaver CPR/First Aid Saturday Fall 2022

This course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults. Upon successful completion, a valid 2 year certificate for Adult CPR/AED is issued.

Student will learn:

  • First aid basics
  • Medical emergencies
  • Injury emergencies
  • Environmental emergencies
  • Preventing illness and injury
  • Adult CPR and AED use
