Today, every school in America has students who have been diagnosed with ASD (Austim Spectrum Disorder)—a neurological disorder on the autism spectrum. The effects of this disorder vary widely, but it is important for every teacher to understand how to recognize behaviors that may indicate ASD. In this course, you take away strategies for working effectively with ASD students. And you will find out how to work effectively with parents to create the most positive learning environments for children and teens with this disorder. The course is geared for K-12 teachers, but it is also relevant for counselors, faculty in higher education, parents and anyone else interested in understanding this important issue. 3 Grad Credits (Optional): From Framingham State University, a leading provider of K-12 teacher training. Each of us has a story to tell. However, the memories of red marks on our school essays often keep us from sharing our stories. Fortunately, the digital world offers planning and editing supports unavailable in the past. This course will show you how to use these tools and others to unleash your creative self. This course introduces you to a variety of digital tools that support writing your memoir, even if you are a bit uncomfortable writing for an audience. There are seven videos that concentrate on different aspects of the process you will probably use to write your memoir. Each video discusses several helpful digital tools or websites. Expressing one’s thoughts, feelings, and perhaps even secrets is a daunting prospect for most of us. These digital tools will remove some angst about the mechanics of writing and allow you to concentrate on your content and message. The course package contains all the materials you need: Tips for Getting Started, summaries of each of the instructional videos, and a list of all course resources (videos and printed articles). Students will need a strong internet connection and a Mac computer, iPad, or iPhone to access videos and articles.

This course looks at a variety of digital tools, available through any digital device, that make the process of memoir writing more fun and a little less daunting. You will explore several unique approaches to research, learn strategies for gathering and storing materials in one easily accessible place, and delve into ways to illustrate your memoir even if you are not an artist. Polishing your work for publication and presenting it in a public format are other video topics. You will leave the course well equipped to begin your writing adventure.
