Training the Good Samaritan: An Introduction to Harm Reduction and Overdose Response Apr. W25

MaineGeneral's Harm Reduction Program leads training and conversation on Overdose Response and Narcan Administration. The presentation will begin by discussing what harm reduction means, and what opioids are, before identifying what an opioid overdose looks like. The training will then discuss steps for responding to an overdose, and close with a conversation about the Good Samaritan Law. Attendees are invited to ask any questions and/or share experiences throughout.

You Heard That on the News? An Introduction to News and Information Literacy in a Digital World

Are you frustrated by our confusing and complex world of news and information? Are you concerned about “bias” in the news media, as well as online misinformation/disinformation and the effects it has on our society? Explore these critical topics in a nonpartisan manner from a “news literacy” perspective and discover some useful skills from the world of news and information literacy that will help you better navigate this challenging world. Find out how some of the basic principles of news literacy education can promote more understanding and better communication in a polarized society. (Attendance is recommended but not required for all six sessions. An overview of “news and information literacy,” as well as an introduction to the rest of the course, will be provided in the Tuesday, April 8th session!)

Craig Coffman is an experienced piano and guitar instructor, professional pianist and music director.  He has over 30 years experience teaching piano privately. His piano and guitar seminars, offered through Community Colleges and Community Education Programs, have been attended by over 30,000 students throughout The United States, Kenya, South Africa Arizona and the Philippines. He has a degree in Sociology from Wesleyan University in Illinois (where he also studied piano) and a Master of Divinity degree from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.
