$125

with Adriaan Gerber, Ellsworth Adult Education

Calendar Apr 28, 2019 at 9 am, runs for 2 weeks

If you’ve ever wondered how knives are created or want to gain some basic blacksmithing skills, join this two session workshop offered by blacksmith Adriaan Gerber at his workshop in Ellsworth. You’ll learn basic forging, filing and heat treating techniques, as well as how to fit a handle to your knife. You’ll leave with your own steel knife made with your own hands. Gerber believes this project builds self-empowerment and confidence. It also offers a glimpse into an ancient art form practiced through the ages. All knives are made from raw materials, ensuring a level of craftsmanship that only handmade articles can have. No previous experience necessary. Please bring leather gloves and eye protection, as well as a bag lunch and drink. There is a $25.00 material fee payable to the instructor at the first class. Makeup class (if needed) 05/12/19.

Adriaan Gerber is a knife maker from Ellsworth who has been making sharp, pointy things for a decade. Before that, he was a software consultant at Boston University. He believes that forging objects from steel is simply the coolest thing you will ever learn.

Directions will be sent to students upon registering.
