Line dancing is accessible to everyone, fun for all, and no partner is needed! This will not be strictly country line dancing as a wide range of music will be used. Those who have done jazz and ballroom dancing will enjoy this form of dance, too. Dances will be varied and suited for beginner and experienced students. Wear clothing that is comfortable and cool, and shoes should also be comfortable and not difficult to dance on (I.e. shoes that don't stick to the floor and make it difficult to move the feet). After class starts, you can still drop in. Drop-in Fee is $10 per class

with Russel Whitten, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

Join other beginning and advanced students on outings to enjoy watercolor painting and build friendships with other artists. Learn to manipulate watercolor media and tonal drawing to recreate the appearance of nature with an awareness of forms and their surrounding elements. Our basis will be the study of perspective, composition, value, and color. Class location will be discussed weekly.
Prerequisite: Watercolor Basics.
Bring 1 small tube each of cadmium yellow (light), cobalt blue, and alizarin crimson; 1 paint palette (Russel says folding ones are ideal!); 1 round #10 watercolor brush; 1 inch-wide flat brush; 1 drawing pencil #2H; 1 eraser; 1 light board or piece of cardboard or portable watercolor easel; a lidded jar of water; two sheets of Arches watercolor paper, 140 lb. cold press, (optional) folding chair (approx. $80).
Note: Please purchase Arches, as the quality of watercolor paper is essential for handling the techniques you will be taught in class. Please bring any colors you already have.

Spring Plant & Bird Walk on the Saco Heath
with Laura Grover, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

What are the first native plants of Spring? What bird is making that call? Combine your love of plants and birds on this special walk to identify and learn about both, as well as how they work together to create the unique and special ecology at the heath! This trail, located on beautiful Wabanaki land, is moderately flat and may be muddy in spots, depending on whether we had rain recently. Half of the trail is a narrow wooden board walk with several stopping points with benches. Registration closes at noon on 5/2. Wear comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, and an optional brimmed hat or cap (which helps with both sun and bugs). Bringing binoculars is highly encouraged! Walk starts promptly at 9am. Rain date 5/4, 4-6pm.
Note: Please communicate any accessibility concerns at registration, and we will ask Laura to contact you to discuss any needed accommodations.

BLAZO-LEAVITT HOMESTEAD (1812 & 1817) TOUR
with Peter Cyr, Sacopee Valley Adult & Community Education

William Blazo built the Blazo-Leavitt Homestead in North Parsonsfield. The ell, with one large chimney, was built in 1812. The main section of the house, with four more chimneys, was added in 1817. It is a two-story Portsmouth Federal-style home with elaborate doorways, ornate interior woodwork, a Palladian window over the front door, and a large central hall. It was in the same family until 1974. Then, from 1977 until 2008, the homestead went through four different owners. From 2008 until late 2013, the structure was vacant. The present owner has worked hard to restore the homestead. The Rufus-Porter type murals and graining by artist Sandy Howe are outstanding. The Blazo-Leavitt Homestead was featured in the October 2019 issue of Early American Life, a copy of which is at the Brown Memorial Library. The homestead is located on Route 160 South in North Parsonsfield, diagonally across the street from the Parsonsfield Seminary. Please note: There is no charge for this tour. The $5 registration fee will be donated to the Parsonsfield-Porter Historical Society. If you would like to contribute other funds to the historical society, you may do so at the time of the tour. Pre-registration is required due to spacing and safety issues. Extra sessions will be available as needed.
