Be better than a map app! Learn basic navigation and chart/map reading. We will be making our own accurate map/ chart and learning compass reading as it relates to true directions. This information is applicable to land, sea and air. This course can expand to introduce nautical/ air-nautical navigation to set up for a Merchant Marine or Pilot’s license. 

Materials: Will be provided by instructor, fee TBD, pay instructor at 1st class.

Over the course of 2 sessions, we will transform common kitchen ingredients into beautiful handcrafted soap. On the first night, we will briefly discuss the science of soap making, safety tips, tools and ingredients. Then, using a basic recipe we will combine vegetable oils and goat milk into a simple but luxurious soap, the likes of which you will not find on the grocery store shelf. On the second night we will expand our repertoire by adding the color, scent, and/or exfoliant of your choice. Each participant will go home with several bars of soap.

Materials: $15 pay to instructor at 1st class

Perfect Pie Crust

 Making a pie crust is becoming a lost art, but it’s not as difficult as many think. Join Libby from the comfort of your kitchen, and learn her secrets to make the perfect pie crust! 

You will need:  large bowl, fork/pastry cutter, rubber scraper, rolling pin, measuring cup + spoons and pie pan.  Ingredients and recipe will be sent after we receive your registration.

Sushi Made Simple

Sushi may seem mysterious and exotic, but making great sushi at home is something anyone can do. Join this fun, hands-on adventure into the art of sushi rolling. Participants will choose from a wide assortment of sushi fillings, making it fun to customize your own rolls to eat during class. A full meal will be served including miso soup and a dessert, both made with sea vegetables. Everyone will receive a complimentary bamboo mat to use in class and take home.  No raw fish is used. This class is vegan-friendly. Children ages 12 and older are welcomed to register with a registered adult. Cost includes all food. Carol Steingart is a marine educator, owner/operator of Coast Encounters, LLC, and specializes in unique programs centered around Maine’s rocky intertidal region. Bring to class: a cutting board, sharp, non-serrated knife, large bowl, and a cotton dish towel.

Let's Soup - Vegetable

Participants will have an opportunity to observe soup cooking techniques and enjoy the results. Lunch will include Homemade Vegetable Soup, a bread item and a sweet treat. Drinks will be water or tea. Recipes will be provided including instructions.

My Oh My, Love That Pie!

If you have suffered through pastry mishaps or wondered what to do about runny pie filling this is the class for you. In one evening we will make a standard two crust pie as well as a fresh fruit tart that will get rave reviews every time you make it. Hands on time with instruction, recipes, tips and liberal tasting opportunities assure that this is a class you won’t want to miss! Bring a rolling pin, Ziploc bag, apron, and rolling mat if you have one. NOTE: In order to maintain social distancing class size is limited to six so register early!
