Drumming & Percussion (Session 2)

Master drummer/multi-instrumentalist Kevin Campbell will teach traditional West African and South American rhythms on a wide variety of drums and percussion instruments, ie. djembe, dunun, gourd shakers and balafon. In addition, we will combine specific hand drumming techniques with accompanying songs and percussion complements. All instruments provided and participants are encouraged to bring their own. All levels of experience and non-experience are welcome. No class 4/24.

Ear Acupressure Point: An Introduction

Locating this area of the ear, the Shen Men acupressure point, can result in a feeling of relief and a lessening of tension and anxiety. It may also help relieve physical symptoms, such as headaches and sleep problems. Ear acupressure is one tool you can keep in your self-care tool bag. Ear acupressure (also called "auricular therapy" or simply "ear treatments") is virtually free and can help you stay healthy. Fly Fishing: An Introduction

Designed to get you solidly grounded in the fundamentals needed to enjoy fly fishing, the topics covered include: tackle selection and assembly, knots, fly casting, fish foods, artificial flies, fly fishing strategies, entomology, and wading safety. After completing this course, you should have all the understanding and skills necessary to catch fish with a fly rod on your own. Kevin is a registered Maine guide and author of the bestselling book, A Fisherman's Guide to Maine. Please bring a bag lunch/snack and something to drink.

Fly Fishing: Basic Fly Casting

Learn the casting skills necessary to fish effectively on your own. This ?hands-on? course will be spent with a fly rod in hand, working on your own casting. Most instruction will be done in small groups, but casting suggestions will also be offered on an individual basis. Videotape analysis of your casting stroke will be provided. Students are encouraged to use their own fly rod and reel, but equipment will be available for anyone who needs it. Please do not buy new equipment just to take this course. Please bring a bag lunch/snack and something to drink.

Genealogy for Beginners

Ready to start diving into your family history but not sure how to start? Trudy Martin has been doing genealogy for twenty years, and she'll share her researching tips. You?ll look for records online, study a census, and begin your pedigree chart. You can bring your own computer for research or use one of ours. (It's not mandatory for you to research online.) It's a great hobby and it's addicting!

German for Beginners

Using a combination of high tech (language apps!) and low tech (index cards!) in an effort to reach all types of learners, this course offers an introduction to the German language within the context of its culture. During class focus on conversation and proper pronunciation in a variety of settings. Homework will be self-directed, with the goal of learning new vocabulary words each week. Instructor hopes to bring in German specialty foods whenever possible to expand and enliven the conversation.
