Maine Driving Dynamics
with RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is aime to improve a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities.
This two-night course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. Our goal is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle-related crashes.
A student who completes this course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. It may take up to two weeks for processing. Quesions regarding your license should be addressed to Bureau of Motor Vehicles at 207-624-9000.
While on school campus, class participants must wear a two-layer maks that covers the mouth and nose at all times. Six-feet social distancing must also be maintained.
Equity Series Session 3: A Racial History of Maine
with Sultana Khan, Noble Adult & Community Education

This workshop will explore the history of racial prejudice in Maine, from the persecution of residents of Malaga Island to the KKK to the history of US relations with the Tribes that have lived in this area for thousands of years. This real history is a necessary component of anti-racism education for Mainers.

Firearms Hunter Safety - Session Two
with Russell Corson, RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education

This course is being taught by a trained, certified volunteer instructor according to statewide standards. This course combines 7.5 hours of classroom instruction with some required independent study at home between the first and second class.
Student must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents, and pass a 50-question test with a grade of 70% or higher.
Note: While on the school campus, class participants must wear a two-layer mask that covers the mouth and nose at all times and six-foot social distancing must be maintained.
Medicare 101
with Courtney Cowan, RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education

Workshops will be held online using Zoom.
Medicare is not one size fits all. New to Medicare? This session will review a wide variety of information to help you navigate the waters. We will review how to obtain Medicare, when you are eligible and many other important topics including supplemental insurance to compliment original Medicare. If you are currently enrolled in Medicare, come get a refresher on the basics and better understand the choices available to you and when you can make changes. There are many different products and carriers available as well as various enrollment periods that give you the opportunity to change your policy if appropriate. Anyone with questions about Medicare will find this class helpful.
Note: The Medicare 101 seminar is free; the $5 fee supports RSU 54 Adult Education registration costs.

If Not Me, Then Who? - Poverty Awareness Training

This class will be held onsite, face-to-face.
Lisa has participated in a train-the-trainer session with Dr. Donna Beegle, author of this amazing training. Do you want to make a difference for those who live in the crisis of poverty? Would you like to develop a deeper understanding of the many different life experiences of poverty? Develop tools for breaking poverty barriers, improving outcomes, and changing lives! Training: 7 segments, participants will have a guide book, watch DVD/video segments, participate in learning/reflection activities, case studies, and role plays. Training designed to assist individuals and organizations to go beyond addressing immediate needs (e.g., food boxes, temporary shelter, etc.) to a more systemic approach to help our neighbors. Course fee includes guide book and CEH certificate for educators.
