Needle-Felted Tapestry
with Megan Franasiak, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education

In this course, we will explore two-dimensional and relief needle-felting techniques to make fiber tapestries. Students will learn how to create fiber works incorporating wool while focusing on color usage and basic drawing techniques. Students may also incorporate other media such as embroidery if desired. No experience is required! Needle-felting materials and tools will be provided and included in the price of the course.
Spring Scones Night!
with Debra Arter, Midcoast Adult & Community Education
If you have had flat or tough dry scones this might be just the class you have been waiting for.
Debra will show you step by step how to make light and tender Chocolate Cherry Scones, Apricot Ginger Scones and Bacon, Cheddar, Chive Scones as well as classic Basic Scones. This class will be participatory, and samples of all items will be tasted, and the rest divided among the class. Remember to bring a container to store all that you will take home. $55 fee includes $10 materials fee. No experience necessary.

Tai Chi for Health and Balance – Part 1
Tai Chi is an enjoyable, low-impact exercise that can help you improve balance, relieve pain, increase strength and prevent falls. It is an effective exercise that is easy on the joints and good for those with arthritis and balance issues. Take this 16-session class to improve the health of your mind and body.

Advanced Narrative Arts: Extension Class

This 12 week course explores the Narrative Arts - The Art of Media. These are the drawing techniques used to create: Comic Books, Video Game Design, Single Panel Gag Cartoons, Comic Strips, Animation, Storyboards for Movies, Graphic Novels and Special Effects for film and television. Learn the illustration skills needed to build your own Characters to populate the Stories you would like to tell - in any Media. This Class is open to students who have already taken Narrative Art foundations with Vance. All you will need is a drawing pad, pencils and erasers - or a Tablet / iPad, if you prefer. Taught by Vance Bessey, a graduate of The Joe Kubert School of Comic Book Illustration and local Illustrator, Cartoonist, Novelist and Art Teacher.
All Things Paper
with Gayle Fitzpatrick, Noble Adult & Community Education
Paper has been around for 2000 years, and we are going to explore all facets of it! Join Gayle in this 4-night class where you will dive into a number of fun paper making. We will start with making sheets of paper and progress to marbling paper, binding books, and sculpting. We will also create amazing cards.
A materials fee of $7 is due at the start of class to the instructor.

Boat America
with Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2-5, Central Lincoln County Adult Education

Learn boating skills from experienced boaters who patrol midcoast coastal waters from Small Point to Port Clyde. TOPICS INCLUDE: Introduction to Boating: types of power boats, boating terms, sailboats paddle boats, and engine types. Boating Laws: Boat registration, regulations, hull identification numbers, required safety equipment, Federal boating laws, state boating laws, and reporting accidents. Safety Equipment: life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, visual distress signals, anchors, and other safety equipment. Safe Operation and Navigation: buoys and beacons, aids to navigation, navigation rules, docking, and the dangers of alcohol on the water. Boating Emergencies: hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard, capsizing, emergency radio calls, carbon monoxide dangers, and weather. Trailering: types of trailers, lights, hitches, towing a trailer. Sports and Boating: water-skiing, hunting and hunting gear, personal watercraft operation, and other boating tips. New Maine Boating Law Maine now requires persons born on after January 1, 1999 in order to operate a boat over 25 hp on inland and coastal waters to have taken the course Boat America, pass an exam, have the state’s Boat America card, and be registered in Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife database. Completing this course satisfies the requirements.

Dog Training Basics*
with Donna Whitney, Tailwaggers' Dog Training, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education

This is a beginner dog training class designed for both the young and the not-so-young. We work in small groups with several trainers assisting. The first night will be an Orientation & Information night, held on Monday, April 7, at the Fairfield Community Center for the two-legged family members only. (Please register only one human per dog; however, two humans may attend with one dog.) You will receive a helpful manual, and many topics will be discussed, including behavior concerns, commands taught (such as walking on a loose leash, stay, and come exercises), and other techniques.
The following four classes will include dogs and owners and will be held at the Fairfield Community Center from 6:00-7:00 p.m. All dogs must be on a leash at all times, and NO dogs will be allowed if they are aggressive.
When you register online, the Adult Education Office will send you a packet that you need to print, read, sign, and bring to class with you. Please bring proof of vaccinations, a $125 materials fee payable to the instructor (cash or check), and your completed packet to the orientation night.

Beginners drawing class where you'll learn basic skills drawing with objects while learning shading skills and dimensions.
Materials for student to buy:
1. Set of drawing pencils, must include B and H Class.
2. 1 large stump and 1 small (used for smudging)
3. Kneaded erase
4. Sand eraser
5. Table or standing easel (can be found at craft stores)
