Students enrolled in this certificate program complete a minimum of 130 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical training, meeting all state licensing requirements. Upon successful completion of the course and passage of the state competency exam, the student will be eligible to enter the healthcare field as a Certified Nursing Assistant under the direction of a licensed nurse. Class size is limited so applying early is advised. Funding opportunities are available through the Pen Bay Apprentice Program "Earn While You Learn", Goodwill Work Force Grant, as well as many other community programs. Prerequisite: high school diploma or equivalent.

Learning to paint with watercolor involves mastering the control of water to paint ratio, as well as knowing when to use a very wet approach or a dry brush. This short workshop focuses on these techniques. It will guide you on how to manage the amount of water in your paintbrush, the paint mixture, and the paper. Mastering watercolor painting involves a nuanced understanding of multiple factors, primarily revolving around the control of water to paint ratio. It's a delicate balance that requires practice and precision. Additionally, knowing when to employ certain techniques, such as a very wet approach or a dry brush, is integral to the process. Through this workshop you will learn skills and gain knowledge to help you confidently navigate the world of watercolor painting. Students should bring their own watercolor supplies which should be of professional grade, all cotton 300 lb watercolor paper, large excellent brushes and professional grade tube watercolors. In addition, please bring several small jars for mixing pouring options.

This class will not only show you the wide variety of options out there, but also teach you some tools to decide if cutting the cord is right for you.

Google Drive: Get It Organized!

Google Drive is an example of a cloud-based place where you can create and save files of all kinds - word documents, spreadsheets, surveys and more.  You can access the files from most devices and more than one person can work on them at the same time.  If you’re using it for personal use, Drive applications are free.  It’s a practical way to learn programs without investing in software. This workshop will introduce you to these features.  This is an in-person class; makeup class, if needed, 12/17/24.

You’ll need a Gmail account for this workshop, and will need to know your account username and password.  It’s ideal if you access your Gmail on the web vs. a computer-based program.  If you’re not sure what this means, please contact us and we’ll be glad to assist you! 

Vanessa loves working with adult learners. She is really easy to be around and makes people extremely comfortable; she even makes learning math and computers fun! She is committed to helping adults discover their strenghts, build their confidence, and realize they can accomplish their goals. In her free time, she loves to travel and explore the outdoors. Vanessa teaches math, science, technology, and provides college and career advising.

 Join us for a fun, no pressure knitting experience! This 3-week knitting class is great for not only beginners, but for anyone who may be a little rusty. You'll learn how to cast on, master the basic and purl stitches, learn some tips and tricks on repairing mistakes, and learn how to read a pattern! Vicky is a passionate knitter and always makes classes fun for her students. 

Now offering back-to-back daytime and evening classes!

Balsam Wreath Fall 2024

In this class, we will learn how to make holiday wreaths. We will use balsam and also decorate it with other beautiful branches from white pine and cedar. We will use a 12" ring to make this balsam wreath. We will also go over how to make holiday swags and garland. Jessica Steele M.Ed. has a deep passion for the wilderness and for teaching. She has been working in the field of Adventure and Environmental Education for more than 30 years. This leg of her journey is about connecting more deeply with herself, others, and the wilderness. Join her for a program of connection, learning, and growing. All classes are taught by instructor Jessica Steele and all materials are included. Registration and payment are required to hold your spot in class. Space is limited! Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance to receive a refund.
