Designed for people who speak little or no English. This is a fun and engaging way for students to learn English vocabulary and grammar in context while gaining skills and strategies in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students are tested to see what level they are currently which will help in placement. All tests are to measure your current level and are NOT pass or fail tests.

Introduction to Voiceovers

“Wow, you have a great voice!” Have you heard that more times than you can count? Or maybe you listen to your favorite audiobooks, commercials, or cartoon characters and think, “I could do that!”

Want to earn income using your talents from the comfort of your home? If so, then you could have what it takes to begin working as a professional Voiceover Artist. Explore the voiceover industry with your instructor, a professional, working voice actor from the voice acting training company, Voices For All, in a one-on-one, personalized, video chat setting.

Discover the current trends in the industry and how easy and affordable it can be to learn, set up and work from home.

In this one-time, 90-minute, introductory class, you’ll also learn about the different types of voiceovers and the tools you’ll need to find success. Your instructor will record you as you read a real script, then offer you some coaching so you can improve your delivery. Your instructor will take notes on your performance and create a professional voiceover evaluation delivered to you in a follow up call.

After the class, you will have the knowledge necessary to help you decide if this is something you’d like to pursue.

College Transitions Math & Technology

Get ready for college level math and technology.  College Transitions Math & Tech. includes an intensive brush up of math skills with an introduction to College Algebra.  Move from "I can't do math" to "I CAN do math!" 

Additionally, you will build technology skills needed in college classes for formatting and editing papers, creating presentations, submitting work online, and using Brightspace - Maine's univeristy and community college online learning system.

Review fractions, decimals, percents, and basic algebra for college math. Learn to use online sources for supplementing your math knowledge. Practice math online, including preparing for the computerized assessments and exams. Gain an understanding of problem solving techniques and processes. Relieve your math anxiety, while gaining tech. skills!

College Readiness class helps you build a strong foundation of skills to support your college success.
Course topics include: time management, study skills, navigating a college campus, campus resources, organizational skills, admission & financial aid information. Weekly classes incorporate active discussion, guest speakers, personal surveys, and written work. 

College Transitions (CT) has a proven record of helping students learn how to overcome challenges faced by new college students and helping them succeed. 

Our classes are held at the UMA campus in Ellsworth and on Zoom.  You can attend ANY college after completing CT.

College Transitions English focuses on sharpening your writing and reading comprehension for college level courses. Develop writing skills necessary for short answer responses, essays, and research papers.

An emphasis is placed on the writing process: outlining, drafts, rewriting, and editing to a final copy. Fine tune your grammar and punctuation while developing your writing style and organization. Build your critical reading skills to pick out main ideas, arguments and common themes in college level readings. 

Nate Berger also teaches college writing at UMA and ELL classes. Classes are taught at UMA-Ellsworth and on Zoom.  You can attend any college after taking College Transitions classes.
