Yoga And Self-Care For The Workplace
with J. Rhinelander, Auburn Adult and Community Education
If you sit at a desk or drive a lot for work, this is the class for you! In this brief but impactful course, students will be empowered to take their health into their own hands (literally!) in their professional lives. Over the course of two sessions together, participants can expect to learn a full 45-60 minute yoga sequence (accessible for using chairs and small spaces), self-massage techniques to ease tension in the body, breathing practices for improved posture and decreased stress, as well as ways to incorporate "movement snacks" into your day, no matter where you work. This could also be a great class if you are a manager or supervisor who is looking for concrete tools to offer employees to improve their overall well being. Participants can expect an accessible but challenging practice, so please wear breathable, comforable clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Though we will be moving through poses made accessible for chair yoga, please bring a yoga mat if you have one. Plan to arrive at least 10-minutes before the class beings to get settled in.
Mishima Ceramics
with Pam Hansen, Kittery Adult Education
The Mishima technique can be traced back to its origin in Korea. This technique will be applied on a hand-built plate during this class. With this ceramic technique, the student will inlay slip (rather than scratch the top layer as in Sgraffito) to reveal a design of the student’s choosing. You’ll apply slip to the plate, apply wax resist on top, scratch your design into your leather-hard plate, then fill the lines in with color, to produce intricate lines and patterns. You can add additional colors to the piece to finish the design before firing. Limit of 6 people.
3 Wednesday sessions
May 7-28, 6:30-8:30pm * no class 5/21
Registration Fee: $30
Materiel Fee: $50, due to instructor at first class by cash (exact change please) or check made payable to instructor
