Female Pain Matters

$29

with Carole Freeman, Central Lincoln County Adult Education

A woman’s guide to understanding and managing pain. In this course, you will learn how women experience pain differently from men. You will discover how your hormones, nervous system, breathing patterns, and other factors affect the way a women's body perceives and responds to pain. You will also explore some strategies to cope with pain and improve your well-being. This course is designed to be informative, engaging, and empowering for all women who want to understand their pain better.

Carole’s background has been equal portions of respiratory therapy, exercise physiology, and massage therapy. Her career as a respiratory therapist began at Loma Linda University Medical Center where she discovered that most adult patients were in the hospital because of poor lifestyle choices. That inspired her to attend graduate school at LLUMC, majoring in Health Sciences. She now focuses her work in a relatively new field of pulmonary medicine - recognizing and treating breathing disorders. She has personally benefited from improved breathing patterns, “I have found that each day I was mindful of my breathing pattern, I gained more energy, and my breathing became easier. It felt like I was turning the clock back as I continued to gain strength and endurance.”

Food and nutrition have a profound impact on our health and well-being, yet many of us are not aware of what foods to eat, which diets are healthy, and where our food originates. We eat toxic, irradiated, or genetically altered foods and we eat more than we need. How can we change our eating habits and become more conscious of what we eat, why we eat it, how it is prepared, and what consequences our food choices have on our health as well as the health of our planet? This certificate provides an overview of the role of food and nutrition choices on our bodies, our immune systems, our overall well-being, and the health of all sentient beings on an increasingly populated planet.

The outcome of this certificate is for the learner to describe a holistic overview of current food and nutrition issues and their impact on physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and planetary health.

This course (approximately 10 classes) is designed to prepare students for an introductory statistics course. College statistics is often difficult for students because the subject matter is unlike mathematics encountered in high school.  The goal of this class is to provide the necessary foundational concepts for success at the college level. We begin by reviewing basic decimal and percents skills. Subsequent topics include data collecting considerations, organizing data and representing it visually, comparing data in terms of range, mean, variance, and standard deviation, and basic probability topics. Instruction can be provided in-person or on Zoom.
