In this class you’ll need 12 or so basic chords, knowledge of the capo, and a sense of adventure as we go more into depth with the 1960’s Bob Dylan, Leadbelly, Iris DeMent, Bruce Springsteen, 1960’s Rolling Stones, Woody Guthrie, view more Rory Block, Leo Kottke, Beatles DVD’s and old time blues DVD’s for fun! You set the pace, but some practice will be required between classes. You can take this class without Guitar I if you have the basic knowledge. You’ll need to bring a guitar, capo, picks, tuner, and notebook. Limit 6 students.

This class is for guitar players with some experience. You will review notes in the first position and open chords in the first position. We will learn movable scales, and movable bar (Barre) chords. The successful student in this class will have completed David’s Intro class or know notes in first position and basic open chords. Bring guitar and music stand. No class on Apr. 15. Limit 10 students.

Introduction to Guitar Messalonskee W19

Calendar Mar 26, 2019 at 7 pm, runs for 8 weeks
This introductory guitar course is designed for beginners interested in learning how to play the guitar. We will cover guitar maintenance, string sizes, changing strings, choosing the proper guitar and care of the guitar. We will cover sight-reading, music theory, scales, and note values. We will also incorporate guitar processors and signal boxes - if you bring them, and learn how to set up amps. When you finish this course you should be able to pick up sheet music and know key, melody, chords, and changes. You will need to bring a guitar and the instructor will bring books, which you must purchase at the start of the first class-cost TBD-about $7. You will also need a 3-ring binder for your homework. The instructor welcomes students ages 10 and up. Parent or guardian must register and participate in the class with students under 17. Limit 10 students. No class Apr. 16.

We’ve been moving to the music since the beginning of time. Line dancing is one great way to keep the beat. No partner required. From beginners up to intermediate line dancing steps look complicated, but they’re really easy to master. It’s great exercise, and you’ll soon be strutting your stuff. Join us for a fun night out. Wear comfortable clean sneakers that slide. Limit 25 students. No class on April 16. Storm date of Apr. 30.
