Mid-Maine Adult Education offers a flexible HiSET program to meet your busy life. Our HiSET program provides individualized academic assistance to help you prepare and take the HiSET.  Now is the perfect time to complete your High School credential and take the next step in your professional career! 

The HiSET consists of five(5) subject tests: 

1) Reading 

2) Writing

3) Social Studies

4) Science

5) Mathematics 

To pass & earn your HiSET credential, all subject tests must be passed individually. Additionally, all five subject test scores must add up to a required composite score to meet full completion requirements and earn your credential. All tests are multiple-choice with the exception of the Writing test, which has multiple-choice and one essay prompt.  Testing accommodations may be available for individuals with documented disabilities.   

Our instructors work at your pace to develop a learning plan that works for you.  Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays during the afternoons and evenings to provide a range of options for learners to attend. All HiSET learners have access to goal-planning, college application/enrollment assistance, resume help, job search navigation, and more.

Rug Hooking Workshop for Beginners - MS

Would you like to learn the art of North American rug hooking in an easy-going, relaxed environment that encourages modern interpretations? We’ve partnered with Elizabeth Miller from Paris Hill Wool Works in Paris, ME for this one-day workshop to teach you all about rug hooking. You will make your choice of the instructor-provided 6” x 6” patterns. Elizabeth will be in touch by email prior to class to note your pattern preference.

The workshop will include an introduction to hooking, including some history of the craft, an overview of styles, how to choose hooking wools and other materials, tools, a few rules, tips and tricks, and getting started on the projects. Finishing instructions will also be demonstrated! There will be an $85 materials fee (cash or check, only) due at the beginning of class. Learners receive a hook tool, 12” hoop, 6” x 6” pattern hand-drawn on high-quality rug warp, all wool needed to complete the pattern, printed instructions, ongoing access to the instructor for questions, new friends, & a new craft!

Please bring a bag lunch, as we will break at about noon for a short indoor picnic. Storm makeup will be April 27; please reserve this date on your calendar—just in case. Limit 10 students.

Cards for Beginners: Create Three Stunning Cards and More!

This is a beginner class where you will learn to create three cards,using current Stampin’ Up! products. If time allows, we may also make some paper craft projects such as gift card holders, gift boxes or bags. All supplies will be provided along with step by step instructions. There will be no class on March 23. Limit 8 students.

Cards for Intermediates: Mastering Handcrafted Cards

This class will be for those who have some experience in stamping and die cutting. We will create cards and other projects using current Stampin’ Up! products. All materials will be provided as well as step by step instructions to help you create beautiful cards! Limit 8 students.

Awaken curiosityand explore your journey in nature through art and words. Usingcloth-bound journals and a variety of media and subjects, focusedon both the biological and artistic sides, you will create beauty asseen through your eyes. Found objects will be used for contourdrawing, cyanotypes, marbleizing, prints, sketches, poems, andother media. Please bring your own finds as well. Plan to ventureoutdoors for a portion of the time as weather permits, and wearcomfortable shoes! Ages 17+ are welcome. Understanding the Maine Death with Dignity Act [Online]

In September 2019, the Maine Death with Dignity law permits physicians to practice medical aid-in-dying under specific circumstances. However, over four years later, there is still a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option. Many providers and patients in Maine are still not familiar with Maine's Death with Dignity Act. Join Valerie Lovelace to get fact-based information and all the details you need to know about Maine's law, how to have the conversation with your physician, and how to qualify for the law or support your loved one who maybe qualifying. This is an online class that will meet via Zoom. Students will receive the meeting link to their email following registration.

Come paint a gnome for your spring garden with Rosie's Artistry! This will be a fun-filled evening of laughter, smiles, and inspiration. Get out after a long winter and make new freinds -- being creative together is the goal of this very jolly class!

All materials will be provided. There will be a $25 materials fee (cash or check only) due to the instructor at the start of the class. Bring a friend!

Paint Your Pet

Paint your pet in acrylic. After registering, you will be emailed instructions on how to send photos to the instructor of your pet. The instructor, Shirley, will premix the colors for your pet and will sketch your pet photo onto a canvas. In class, you will take care of the painting your pet! Use of fun colors and a playful spirit are a must in this class! All materials are provided. Limit 10 students.

Preserving the Harvest: Jams and Jellies - MS

Has this long winter made you dream about strawberries and perhaps making some jams and jellies? Join Deborah Barnett from the UMaine Cooperative Extention in this hands-on food preservation workshop! You will learn the basics steps for both canning and freezing. Participants will receive a "Preserving the Harvest" food preservation packet and will learn the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to insure safety, and how to check for properly sealed jars. Please bring a potholder with you to the workshop, as you will be able to take home a jar of what we prepare that evening! There will be a $20 material fee (cash or check only) due to the instructor at the start of class. Limit 10 students.
