Automotive Technology- An Introduction
with Tom Vannah, Mid-Coast School of Technology Adult Education

This 6-week course will give you a basic understanding of your automobile as well as provide a launching pad to affiliated careers or further study at a community college level. We will cover the basic theory and diagnostics of the following topics, aligned to ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) standards: Foundation and Safety, Basic Engine and Auto Transmission Fundamentals/Service, Steering System and Suspension, and Brakes. By completion of class, the student will have a solid understanding of lubrication, fluids, tires, vehicle maintenance, and how systems work. Safety training modules will be addigned to study via website at home prior to the class starting. This is not a bring-in-your-own-vehicle repair class; applied learning will occur in the shop on a demo vehicle. Safety glasses and leather bound footwear is required. Beginner Drone Flying
with Col. Daniel LeClair, Windham/Raymond Adult Education

This 15-hour blended course is designed for anyone using or looking to use drones. We cover the operation of various models, hands-on flight practice, uses and applications across industries, FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations, operational risks, insurance, career opportunities and much more. If you are currently working, or considering a career in, real estate, construction, transportation, agriculture, insurance, public safety, photography, media, inspection, etc. or want to start a business, you’ll learn how your industry can be transformed in new, cost-effective ways. We will discuss how the citizens of Maine are using these unmanned aircraft in their businesses and how best you can employ drones in your business or start a new one. Prerequisites: Must have a minimum of 8th grade English reading and writing level, and comfortable using a computer and internet browser.
Note: This will be a combined class with two (2) virtual on-line classes via Zoom then one (1) face-to-face flying day.

Note: This class has been revised due to COVID-19. Each person will be required to wear a mask at all times. There will be disposable masks available if people don’t bring their own. Each person will also be required to maintain 6 feet of social distancing. Gloves will be provided for practical scenarios involving shared equipment or supplies. Please remind your students to wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival and prior to departure.

Certified Nursing Assistant Medication (CNA-M) Course
with RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education

This is a course prescribed by the Maine State Board of Nursing that adheres to the Maine State Nursing Practice Act, Chapter 5. It is for Certified Nursing Assistants who have completed one or more years of full-time employment as a CNA and are listed as active and in good standing on the Maine State Registry of Certified Nursing Assistants.
The purpose of the course is to teach experienced CNAs to administer non-injectable medications to patients who are 4 years of age and older, performed under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in a long-term care facility, state mental health institution, county jail, state correctional facility, or assistive living setting.
Students enrolled in this 120-hour program at RSU54 Adult and Community Education will complete 60-hours of classroom, 20 hours of laboratory practice and 40 hours of clinical (1to 3 supervised practice). All course objectives must be met to successfully complete this program, including passage of a final written exam with a grade of 85 or better, and completion and demonstration of all skills on the Skills List in clinical or laboratory settings.
The tuition is $1,440, which includes the textbook. A $300 deposit or proof of funding is required with this application.
Course runs 7 weeks and classes are held at MSJ in Waterville.
