Computer Training for Small Business

Your business is unique, so are your training needs. Our staff consultant works with you to assess your needs and to customize computer-based or business training for you and/or your staff. Workshops are offered at the McLain School computer lab classroom in all topics covered in our array of computer, business and workforce courses. From Business Ethics and Customer Service to Cloud Computing and managing company Excel spreadsheets, we will work to design and deliver training for your own unique business needs. One-to-One Training & Consulting, $45/hour plus planning time Small Group Training (up to 8 participants), $50/hour plus planning time. Refunds: Course cost will be refunded, less a $5 processing fee, if you withdraw one week prior to the first class. If you withdraw prior to the second class, you will be refunded 50%.

Writing in the Workplace

This class is an independent study designed to help students develop and improve writing skills: reviewing grammar, word usage, verb tenses, and sentence structure as well as planning, composing and revising various types of employment-related writing. Use Microsoft Word to compose emails, memos, letters, resumes and proposals. Pre-requisite: Microsoft Word or instructor permission. Online class. Call to express interest. Fee: $75.

Tech Spot

The Tech Spot is a School and Community Project located at the Renaissance Center (60 Water Street in Skowhegan). Under the supervision of an adult education instructor and other volunteer teachers, local students offer technology advice and tutoring at no charge to adults from throughout our school district. Individual and small group sessions are available by reservation or walk-in. Examples of possible help sessions include: general computer operation, preparing resumes, completing online job applications, conducting web searches, using Facebook and other social media programs, and operating Smart phones, iPads, Tablets, and PCs. Assistance is also available for creative software applications including basic iPhoto, & iMovie. Help with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) is available as well.

Be in compliance with the changing standards by taking Veterans Safety and Health Consulting LLC’s OSHA Compliant Personal Lift certification class.  Learn how to safely and correctly operate aerial lifts and scissor lifts. There are an average of 26 construction worker fatalities each year from lift accidents, often due to operator error or negligence, amounting to as much as 3% of all construction related deaths each year. Reduce YOUR risk of injuries and fatalities with proper OSHA-compliant lift certification.  Three separate sessions offered; choose the one you want.  Minimum of 10 participants to make this class run.

Be energy-informed as you plan to update your home to 21st Century performance.  Architectural designer, builder, and building science consultant Andrew Frederick will lead a workshop series on the best-practice approaches to high performance renovation (and the risks of doing them incorrectly!).  Topics covered will be retrofit method (insulating to the inside or outside), the importance of proper air-sealing and ventilation, material selection, and the economic and environmental considerations of each approach.  Attendees will be encouraged to do “homework” that involves their unique situations and bring it back to class for discussion.

This information class will tell you about being a bus driver for rsu#12, whether it be full time or part time. This class will explain the paper work need to apply and other requirements. We will also explain how we can help to obtain the license needed to apply and can set up a study group with Adult Ed to help with the written portion of the test. Booklets for the test and applications will be available. Your instructor is Larry Dancer, Operations Manager for RSU#12.

You will need to bring a DSLR with a flash (on camera is fine) to class for this exciting workshop in portraiture.

We will explore studio lighting, and the various methods of setting up lighting scenarios. There will be strobes and flash units available and the class will fully participate in making their own portraits. Enter the exciting world of portraiture and learn to take your own family portraits, senior pictures or even capture images of your beloved family pet.
