140 Classroom Hours w/ a Clinical Externship

For students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Includes hands-on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

This is a 120 hour course preparing CNA’s working in nursing homes to administer medications under the supervision of an RN (this 40 hour piece should be scheduled at the facility, by the facility, and a schedule provided to the instructor.) Medications course follows standardized curriculum approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing. The purpose of this course is to teach experienced certified nursing assistants (CNA) to administer selected noninjectable medications to patients who are 4 years of age and older. This standardized medication course will provide the basis of understanding needed for the CNA to administer medications accurately and safely.

This 16-week course begins with foundational knife skills and advances to fine dining techniques. Towards the end, students will sit for the National Kitchen Manager ServeSafe Certification Exam.

Classes run Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm and provide comprehensive training.

Course Structure:

First Part:
*Class Instruction and ServeSafe Review
*Focus on foundational culinary skills, including knife skills and basic cooking techniques.
*Comprehensive review of the ServeSafe books.
* Reading assignments for each class to reinforce learning and prepare for the ServeSafe exam.

Second Part:
*Hands-On Experience
*Practical experience in a restaurant-type setting with our student-run Cafe.
*Application of learned skills in a real-world environment to enhance practical knowledge and proficiency.

In addition to culinary training, we offer assistance with job placement, work readiness, and interview skills to ensure graduates are well-prepared for culinary careers.
