What is Medical Coding?

Medical coding is a vital part of the changing healthcare landscape, and the demand for these medical information specialists is expected to grow.1 In addition to collecting and classifying information from patient health records, medical coders use their skills to enhance physician reimbursement. This all-inclusive course consists of Medical Terminology, Medical Front Office Skills, Electronic Medical Records for the Medical Office, and Medical Billing. In addition, upon completion of all courses, you will sit for your CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) and Billing Specialist National Certification exams through the NHA. Strong typing, computer, and English grammar skills are essential.   Medical terminology, formats, rules and regulations, jobs, calculation of pay, confidentiality, FTP, and tricks of the trade, all equipment, reference books, and course books are provided with the course fee.  Classes are once a week for 16-weeks with a completion of 16 weeks to 6 month options.  This is a State Certified Program and you will receive a Certificate of Completion and Letter of Recommendation upon graduation, resumes and how to obtain a job are covered in this program.  Course includes medical terminology, Anatomy & physiology and transcription.

The course runs either 16 weeks or up to 6 months.

Medical Transcription is the process of turning dictated (audio) medical information into typed records through use of wav audio files, foot pedals, and various file transfer software programs like Dropbox and Bytescribe.                                                                                                        Proficiency in computer and typing skills and the use of word processing programs is required before enrolling in this program.
