Beginner's Observational Drawing

Paper, a pencil, and your brain. That's all you need to start learning how to draw. It's a skill just like reading and writing, and this class aims to demystify that process. It's for "the true blue" beginner and will provide a supportive, judgement free zone where students can build a solid foundation in the perception of line, space, and value relationships and build confidence in rendering what they see. Materials fee included in course fee.

Bow Tucks Purse

Make this versatile purse in one class. It has several compartments that make organizing and finding your things easy. Bring to class a sewing machine in good working order and a cutting board.  Come spend a fun Saturday and have a great purse to show for it.  Purse measures 11"x11"x5"

Materials List:

front & back - top main section - 1/2 yard (also enough for handle and front pocket)

Front and back contrasting bottom piece - 1/3 yard

Lining for the entire inside - 1/2 yard

Inside pockets - 1/3 yard

Cover for bottom insert - use scraps from above pieces or 12" x 16"

button loop and ties- 1/4 yard

1 inch or larger button

shoulder strap - 5" x 42" piece of fabric

fusible fleece - iron on is easy to work with - 2 yards

thread to match

heavy cardboard or matte board for the bottom

Choctaw Pouch

Versions of the basket appear in the work of several Native American tribes but it is most often attributed to the Choctaws. It is a twill weave woven in different directions at different times.  It measures about 12" across.  A materials fee of $15 is payable to instructor at class.

Comic Workshop

An introductory course to comics and cartooning. Students will be provided with their very own set of high quality cartooning supplies- everything they need to plan, sketch, ink, and letter, their own comics. They will become familiar with the tools of the trade and be introduced to a variety of genres and styles. We'll go over the technical side of cartooning, where students will learn how panel layout, framing, and pacing can help guide the reader through their story. Class includes materials: Refillable brush pen, Micron pen, sketching pencil, precision eraser, a tin to keep them all in, and a dot-grid sketchbook. If you have other favorite mediums feel free to bring them from home. For ages 9-15 (age exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis).

DATE NIGHT: Adult Clay Night

Bring your significant other out on a unique date night and learn something new together. You will explore one fun and easy beginner level project. You'll have the opportunity to throw clay on the potter's wheel and also learn to hand-build functional forms. Decorate and glaze your clay pieces at the end of class before they are fired. All experience levels welcome. Materials fee of $16 per couple (cash only please) payable to the instructor at class.

DIY Beer Mug at Garden Street Bowl

What better way to enjoy your favorite summer brews than in a custom beer mug made by you?!  Break up the week and learn to make a beer mug out of clay with Arts Afire Studio at Garden Street Bowl in Kennebunk!

Using slab-construction, you will create your own one of a kind beer mug.  Instructor Amanda will guide you through all the steps! All experience levels welcome! Share this creative experience with friends, co-workers or family.

Decorate and glaze your piece at the end of class.  Arts Afire Studio will give you a call once your beer mug has been fired and is ready for pick up at Garden Street Bowl.
