In partnership with Franklin Memorial Hospital, and AHEC, Spruce Mountain Adult & Community Education is facilitating an all-inclusive sixteen-week certification course.  This class will set you on the path for local employment and the beginning of a successful medical career. 

Medical Assistants are responsible for a variety of medical office tasks from administrative, technical and scientific duties.  Must have quality human relations skills, too.  Some of the job duties include cleaning and dressing wounds, taking blood samples, administering medications, taking vitals, preparing a patient for EKGs, obtaining a patient's history, and assisting physicians during examinations. 

Our program provides virtual reality style classroom work as well as traditional style teaching for a blended learning experience.  Practicum will be performed during the program to ensure that the student has proper techniques and will be ready to pass the National Certification.  Upon completion of the program, you will sit for your CCMA (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant) national certification exams through NHA. 

The cost includes national certification, 6 practice exams, online study guide materials, books, resume assistance, and all other associated fees.  Initial job shadow and externships available through Franklin Memorial Hospital.  

Payment plans, scholarships and payment through our local career center may be available for you!

140 Classroom Hours w/ a Clinical Externship

For students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Includes hands-on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140-hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

*By "signing up" for this class you will be put on our interest list. Currently there is no CCMA course scheduled at Lake Region and Fryeburg Area Adult Ed.   Gray-New Gloucester Adult & Community Education may already have a class scheduled and we encourage you to reach out to them.

These are healthcare professionals who provide intimate, hands-on healthcare to patients in medical settings under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Certified Nurses Assistant-M The (CNA-M) 

Program is a standardized, 120-hour medication course approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing, which provides the basis of understanding needed for CNAs to administer medications accurately and safely. The course is designed to teach experienced CNAs how to administer non-injectable medications to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered nurse. Providing excellent patient care, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must to becoming a CNA-M.

CNA Certified Medical Technician

State Approved Certified Medical Technician Program. Includes: 60 hours classroom, 20 hours classroom/lab, and 40 hours clinical training. This is a 120 hour course preparing CNA’s working in nursing homes to administer medications under the supervision of an RN (this 40 hour piece should be scheduled at the facility, by the facility, and a schedule provided to the instructor.) PREREQUISITE: CNA license +2080 hours as a CNA. Call the Adult Ed Officeat 778-3460 for an application and detailedregistration requirements.

CNAs are caregivers who provide patients assistance with activities of daily living and basic needs. They also help patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their hospital stay. These direct caregivers spend most of their time assisting patients and listening to their concerns. 

This is a class, laboratory, and clinical component course that will prepare the student to take the Maine State Board of Nursing (MSBoN) CNA examination. The course is 180 hours spanning over 20 weeks. Most meeting days are on Saturday, with some Tuesday afternoon/evenings as well. You must attend all sessions. Our clinical partners are Norway Health and Rehabilitation Center and Bridgton Hospital.

This 16-week course begins with foundational knife skills and advances to fine dining techniques. Towards the end, students will sit for the National Kitchen Manager ServeSafe Certification Exam.

Classes run Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm and provide comprehensive training.

Course Structure:

First Part:
*Class Instruction and ServeSafe Review
*Focus on foundational culinary skills, including knife skills and basic cooking techniques.
*Comprehensive review of the ServeSafe books.
* Reading assignments for each class to reinforce learning and prepare for the ServeSafe exam.

Second Part:
*Hands-On Experience
*Practical experience in a restaurant-type setting with our student-run Cafe.
*Application of learned skills in a real-world environment to enhance practical knowledge and proficiency.

In addition to culinary training, we offer assistance with job placement, work readiness, and interview skills to ensure graduates are well-prepared for culinary careers.
