The Learning Center is open to all adults in need of academic instruction and guidance. Hours vary by day, and we will try to meet you on your schedule. Our staff provides individualized instruction in the areas of:

  • High School Equivalency
  • HiSET Prep
  • Accuplacer Prep
  • Math and ELA instruction to prepare you for college-level coursework
  • General reading, writing, and math tutoring for anyone pursuing college or career education
  • Workforce credential or certification tutoring and prep
  • College and Career advising

All services through the Learning Center are FREE of charge. If you or anyone you know could use any of these services, please contact us.

These ongoing classes help students prepare academically for a variety of programming:  preparation for the ETS HiSET high school equivalency exam, High School diploma credit courses, family literacy, basic adult literacy in math and reading, workforce training support such as CNA or ServSafe exam preparation, and more depending on individual needs and goals.

Schedules are designed around individual needs and availability.  Start times are flexible throughout the year.

  • Remote and distance learning options are also available. 
  • A formal meeting with the Program Director or Program Services Coordinator is required.
  • All Academic students must complete orientation paperwork and assessment testing before being assigned to classes.

Looking for a new career?  Interested in changing lives of those around you?  How about a part-time career or to get paid to work out?  This program is designed to teach you everything you need to know to enter the health and fitness field as a group fitness instructor and/or personal trainer.  Our trainers are highly recognized in this field, with more than 20 years experience, and will provide you hands-on training to pass the national tests through AFAA.  The program is all-inclusive.  You may choose to complete both group fitness and personal training, or take one or the other.  Lectures are once a week for 10 or 20 weeks.  $1,500 or $3,000 for both.  All materials included in fee including National Certification Exams.

The St. John Valley College & Career Access Program (CCAP) can be your ticket to post-secondary education and/or career training:

  • College readiness: reading, writing, math, & computer apps
  • Career training courses & career preparation support;
  • Success building workshops: college planning, financial aid, & study skills
  • Academics & career mentoring support
  • Co-enrollment in college or workforce training courses;
  • Career exploration resources; and
  • Industry-recognized occupational certification

CCAP Courses are designed for learners looking for a variety of post-secondary options that include both a college track and a career track or a combination of both:

College Track:

  • Preparing for a two or a four-year college plan;
  • Paying for education and training beyond high school;
  • College readiness instruction w/ Success building workshops;

Career Track:

  • Industry-recognized occupational certification leading to employement;
  • Searching for high-need, high-growth, high-wage occupations;

Family Literacy makes families stronger.  Families that learn together, grow together.  Our Family Literacy program serves adult learners and children aged birth through eight years.

Participating families have access to a full range of services, including:

Medical Transcription Certificate Program

Medical Transcription Certificate Program

with Gorham Adult Education

New course description: Medical transcription is a desired field for most people trying to work at home. Strong typing, computer, and English grammar skills are essential.   Medical terminology, formats, rules and regulations, jobs, calculation of pay, confidentiality, FTP, and tricks of the trade, all equipment, reference books, and course books are provided with the course fee.  Classes are once a week for 16-weeks with a completion of 16 weeks to 6 month options.  This is a State Certified Program and you will receive a Certificate of Completion and Letter of Recommendation upon graduation, resumes and how to obtain a job are covered in this program.  Course includes medical terminology, Anatomy & physiology and transcription.  $2650, includes everything for the course and the field.
