This course shows the difference between a Will and a Trust and how each is used as a tool in an estate plan. It covers the basics of a Will, Power of Attorney and Advanced Directive, as well as more complex topics such as trust use in Medicaid/MaineCare asset preservation, estate plans for blended families, and how to protect the inheritance of an adult child. Attendees will learn how estate planning techniques can be used to preserve assets and prevent family conflict. Taught with stories, this class shows attendees potential areas of loss in their own families.

Learn to play the ukulele! It has never been more popular and you don't even need to know how to read music! On the uke you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes old and new -- even classical music. Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 900 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and playing skills using familiar songs. There are lots of laughs along the way and learning to play an instrument is good for your brain! You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. And when folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile! If you don't own a ukulele, please contact us for information. What are you waiting for? Grab a uke and get ready for a musical adventure, then spread the joy!

Perhaps you will discover a new form of writing that feels like it was made just for you!

Microsoft Excel Basics During this workshop, you will learn how to navigate a simple Excel worksheet, enter data in a worksheet, use basic math functions, do basic formatting, how to replicate data, use built-in functions and work with columns and rows. The design of the course is that you'll attend the class and also do 2-3 hours of work between sessions which greatly enhances your learning. This is a live online class using ZOOM. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey included in your automated receipt so the instructor can tailor the course to meet your needs. You will want to have Microsoft Excel on your computer for this workshop and many people find it helpful to have two monitors though it is certainly not necessary to benefit from the sessions. There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) attach an external screen to your computer (contact our program if you need technical assistance with that); 2) use two computers (one for Excel and the other for the ZOOM meeting.

Chemistry with Lab (Spring)

This course provides students with an introduction to the major theories and concepts in chemistry.  The science will be explored through lectures, lab activities, projects and research.  Math skills needed to perform necessary calculations will also be reviewed. 

By the end of this course, students will have gained a true understanding of the composition of matter, how matter is categorized, how matter interacts, the Atomic Theory throughout history, the signs and causes of chemical reactions, and the properties and structure of matter.  This college pre-requisite course is offered for high school diploma credit.  This is a live, online class using ZOOM.

History of Malaga Island

Learn about the eviction of a complete community living on Malaga Island in Casco Bay in 1912. Learn the prehistory of the island's use by our indigenous people and post history of the island after the eviction. Learn a bit about the mainland African American village in coastal Maine that no longer exists but predated the Malaga Island Colony. Visit the island remotely through a slide show created by Master Maine Guide, Alice.

Master Maine Guide Alice Bean Andrenyak is a Maine native who lives at Mere Point in Brunswick. Owner of Alice's Awesome Adventures and Maine e-Learning, she is an outdoor enthusiast, naturalist, teacher, solo entrepreneur, a Kripalu trained Outdoor Guide, and a great cook. She has been visiting Malaga Island for over 30 years and has seen it change. She also trains future Registered Maine Guides and outdoor enthusiasts in navigation, canoeing, SUP, sea kayaking, snowshoeing, nature studies, and overnighting skills. She is a Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide leading Forest Bathing sessions and leads regular sea kayak and hiking tours of Malaga Island.
