Floral Printmaking

This class is a fun intro to printmaking. Follow along and learn how to prepare a design and carve a rubber block. Once the blocks are carved, learn how to ink and print your design. Literacy Volunteers Tutor Orientation & Training W25

Learn about Literacy Volunteers and tools and strategies to be an effective Literacy Volunteer Tutor. Literacy Volunteer Tutor Orientation provides an overview of Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec's structure and organization, the variety of learners served, and the roles and responsibilities of tutors and other volunteers. The Tutor Training provides basic instruction in adult learning principles and strategies for teaching adults in one-on-one situations. The areas of basic reading and writing, English Language Learning, health and financial literacy, digital literacy, and employment skills are reviewed. Participants will practice skills and meet experienced tutors. A resource manual, Tutor Eight Edition, and other resource materials are provided.

An Introduction to Birds and Birding

Led by an experienced birder and ecologist, this course will walk you through identifying birds found in Southern Maine. We will cover the different families of birds, habitats, life histories, binoculars, field guides, and more. In addition, we will discuss several natural history and conservation topics related to the world of birds.

This is a two-part evening program followed by a Saturday field trip; field trip will be held Saturday, May 3, 8-10 AM.  The field trip location will be announced.

This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives. You will then explore how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can safeguard your assets from nursing home or MaineCare (Medicaid) liens. The discussion will also cover strategies to protect assets from life events such as business failure or the divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell, a lawyer based in York, Maine, will lead the class. With 31 years of experience, Kathryn specializes in estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matters.

Goat Milk Soap Making

Calendar Apr 8, 2025 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week

Participants will make a batch of hot press goat milk soap using a variety of molds and having many scents and extra add-ins to choose from. Each person will come out of the class with 4-8 soaps, depending on the choice of mold and the recipe and know-how of how to make future batches at home. Each student will need to bring a dedicated crock pot and submersion blender/hand mixer to the class that night. All molds, scents, and soap materials will be provided by the instructor. Soaps will be ready for pickup the following week, due to curing time. The fee includes all materials.

Growing From Seed Indoors

This workshop is for people who want to start plants from seed or want more information. This is a hands on class where you will learn all about seeds. You will practice techniques to start different kinds of seeds. Learn about selection, materials, timing, transplanting and planting out in the garden. Growing from seed expands the catalog of plants you can grow dramatically. It is a fun and easy way to start plants. Materials fee (check or cash) of $25 payable to instructor at class.
