This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, etc. The class will then delve into, learning how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can protect your assets from nursing home or Maine Care (Medicaid) liens. Discussion will include other strategies to safeguard assets from life events such as business failure or divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell is a lawyer in York, Maine and has been practicing for 31 years. Her practice focuses on estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matters.

Sea Glass as Wearable Art

Learn to wire wrap pieces of sea glass, and pottery shards to make wearable jewelry items. Sea glass and wire materials provided, but may bring your own special pieces. Tools to use in class available to share but bringing your own needle nose pliers is encouraged. In this beginner class you will create a minimum of 3 pendants. Written guide sheets provided. A $20 materials fee made payable to the instructor will be do the first night of class.

Ballroom Dance for Couples

This class introduces couples to basic ballroom dance skills that will teach them to look great dancing, help them enjoy a night out, or prepare them for special events like weddings and anniversaries. Requirement: a dancing partner. Class payment is per person.

How Do I Get Enrolled in Adult Education?

The first step in enrolling in Adult Education is Orientation!

What happens during an Orientation?

We are so glad you asked! We want you to be prepared and informed about what to expect during your Orientation session.

During your Orientation Session you will:

  • Meet with our student advisor
  • Discuss what you would like to accomplish through Adult Education
  • Fill out enrollment paperwork
  • Sit for academic placement testing

What you should know before you arrive:

  • We are located at 377 River Road, Mexico, ME 04257
  • The Adult Education entrance is the one that is facing the road
  • You should ring the bell and wait for us to buzz you in. Once we do that, you can come right upstairs
  • The Orientation process can take a few hours, so please plan accordingly

What you MUST bring to your Orientation Session:

  • A current, valid Maine Photo ID (Maine drivers license, Maine State ID card, Passport, Military ID, etc.) Please present this at the time of your appointment for identification verification.

(If you do not have any of those form of Photo ID, please reach out and let us know before scheduling an Orientation so we can assist you in the necessary next steps.)

Sewing Curious - Session 2

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at sewing but didn't want to invest in a machine? Did someone give you a machine and you don't know where to begin? Come join us for a two-hour intro class - you can use one of our sewing machines or bring your own, and our instructor will explain sewing machine and fabric cutting basics, then help you make a reversable shopping bag. We will supply fabric, thread and the instructor! We have two machines available for use for those who do not have one! Spots are limited to 6.
