Lighthouse Photography Workshop

This is a hybrid class with live, online instruction and in-person photography on location.  Read the full course description for details.

In the first online class, we'll start by learning camera settings, aperture, shutter, ISO, white balance and other compositional techniques critical to lighthouse photography. The following Saturday during the cruise, we’ll focus on photographing wildlife and lighthouses, sharing techniques and approaches. Finally, we’ll meet online the third week to share, learn and critique our images. Limited to 15 students. This workshop is for beginner and intermediate photographers.

Students must purchase their own 3-hour Bar Harbor Whale Watch cruise ticket in addition to the course fee.

Steve McGrath is a professional freelance Photographer and Photography Teacher who has been creating images for 30 years. Steve began his career by shooting sports photography for local high schools before adding weddings and stock agencies to his repertoire. His love of the outdoors has since led him to focus more on his true passion — nature photography. Many of his images have been published in school text books. His favorite places to shoot are Acadia National Park in Maine, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Cape Cod National Seashore.

The following Saturday! THE CRUISE! During the Cruise, we’ll focus on photographing the wildlife and lighthouses, sharing techniques and approaches.

Finally, we’ll meet online the following week to share, learn and critique our images. Limited to 15 students. This workshop is for beginner and intermediate photographers.

The course fee includes everything except your ticket to the cruise, students must purchase their own cruise ticket.

Beginner Adult Tap - Summer

Tap is an incredible way to improve memory, coordination, balance, and reflexes! Develop musicality along with a basic knowledge of tap steps. Each class will consist of a warm-up, center and across-the-floor exercises, and a fun piece of tap repertoire or choreography. Join this fun class to add movement to your weekly routine, learn something new, or refresh skills from your past!

Bring tap shoes and wear something comfortable to move in.

Gabby Poulin is a graduate of Roger Williams University and was part of the RWU Dance Theater. She grew up training with Community Dance Project and Thornton Academy Dance Company under the direction of directors Emma Campbell and Sarah Choroszy. She further expanded her studies at Bates Dance Festival and Joffrey Ballet School and trained under Morgan Sanborn, Director of Dirigo Conservatory of Movement.

Museum Sketchbook: Colby

Bring a sketchbook and pencil and join us for an afternoon of drawing in one of Maine's fabulous art museums. Forge an intimate connection with museum collections, while improving your own work by studying the techniques of the masters. Guidance and critical feedback are provided as needed. At the end of our visit, we will meet up to share our results with the group. Museum admission is included in fee. Location: Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville. Participants will meet at the museum.

This is a beautiful three-hour educational, and ecological tour to the farthest reaches of Messalonskee Lake aboard the Snowdrifter II--a 25’ Godfrey Sanpan Limited Edition Luxury Cruiser. You will see firsthand invasive milfoil as it passes alongside the boat just inches below the lake surface; learn about statewide eradication efforts all while enjoying the natural beauty of Messalonskee Lake. Search for Sandhill Cranes and endangered Least Bittern and Black Tern as we travel through the 1300-acre emergent wetland known as the Messalonskee Lake Marsh. The North American Bald Eagles may make their presence known, and you will learn about the history of the area and the lake. Captain Gary is a Registered Maine Guide and licensed commercial boat operator. Rain date will be announced later if needed. This is a handicap accessible boat for normal-size wheelchairs. Students must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian if between ages 10 and 17. Bathrooms available on shore, if necessary. Woven Window Feeders

Humans have been weaving baskets for hundreds of thousands of years. Many plant materials may be used to weave with: vines, leaves, bark, wood, and more. Basket weaving requires various skills, all involving twisting and pulling and wrapping the materials around each other. Weaving a small project, like a fish (pictured), or a heart or five-pointed star, along with other shapes, can provide a comprehensive, beginner-friendly introduction to most of the skills required for full-scale basketry. Learn to make a beautiful woven window feeder for birds! We'll cover identification, responsible collection, materials processing and storage, and creation, including the basics of stake-and-strand waling and randing weaves.

Gentle Yoga - Live Online

Please have a stable internet connection, a yoga mat, and any props you might want for getting comfortable (a couple blocks or books, a blanket or two, and a pillow or cushion) and wear comfortable clothing.
