Women’s Basic Chainsaw Skills & Safety
with Alissa Wetherbee, Ellsworth Adult and Community Education

Ellsworth Adult & Community Education is collaborating with Axe Women Loggers of Maine to offer a workshop for women who want to learn how to use a chainsaw safely, for working in the woods or for timbersports competition. Learn from World Timbersports Champion Alissa Wetherbee.
Safety toed boots or shoes is required, and please bring leather work gloves as well. Chainsaws and safety equipment are provided for the workshop, which will be a combination of presentation, demonstration and practice using the saw. The presentation/demonstration and some practical will be indoors and small teams will rotate outdoors for chainsaw practice. Dress appropriately. Limit 12.
High School Biology with Lab (Remote)
with TBD, RSU #13 Adult and Community Education

For any and all students who are preparing for admissions review for competitive majors, this is an excellent opportunity to meet the admissions "Biology with lab" prerequisite. If you have been away from science courses for some time, this course is recommended to prep you for rigorous college science classes. Students who successfully complete the class will earn 1 high school credit. This course is provided at no cost to students through the Maine College and Career Access Services grant and RSU13 Adult & Community Education.
Biology with Lab is a fully remote course available online. No textbook or materials are required.
9-Week Course, Approximately 6 Hours of Course Time Per Week
One face-to-face video conference review session with the instructor will be offered each week. (Mondays, 7:30-8:30pm) It is strongly suggested that students attend this weekly class time; however, if schedule does not permit then individual video conference meetings may be arranged with the instructor throughout the course.
As with all Adult Education courses, advising and technology support is offered by our staff. This support may include: assistance with obtaining a program-loaned laptop; using Teams, Schoology and other online learning platforms; time management and study skill; financial aid and scholarship awareness; and college and career exploration.
Renewable Energy Careers: Intro to Solar Panels
with Jean Pierre Akayezu, Revision Energy, Portland Adult Education

This program is a partnership between Portland Adult Education and ReVision Energy. Designed for non-native English speakers, students will receive OSHA 10-Hour Training Program Certification, an introduction to solar photovoltaic installation and systems, and connection to employers to prepare for a career in renewable energy. Due to grant funding, this program is free for accepted students.

Electronic Health Records
with Joanna Clymer, Portland Adult Education

This course will cover core competencies of organizational and technical support of medical computer software records used in a healthcare facility. Topics to include: medical record content and format; techniques for filing, maintenance and acquisition of health information; processes of collecting, computing, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data related to health care services all done with EHR computer software.
Note: This class does not satisfy the requirements to become a medical coder.
Course fee includes cost of book, $108.
Prerequisite: successful completion of Medical Terminology

Microsoft Office Suite 1

This class is intended for the person who has had little practice using Microsoft Products. We will create and edit letters and documents using Word. We will create and edit basic spreadsheets like budget and payroll using Excel. We will be using Microsoft Teams as our remote platform. We will learn to navigate screens between local and online options as well as Windows File explorer to save and retrieve our work.

Keyboarding
with Trace Salter, Portland Adult Education

Students in this class will develop techniques and skills that are conducive to building keyboarding speed with a high level of accuracy, including the number keypad. Students will also learn correct techniques of hand placement and proper posture so they will be able to type more comfortably and without looking at their hands. Students will be expected to commit to coming to class twice a week and then invest at least 3 hours/week of typing on their own. If a student can do that, they can expect to learn the keyboard and should be able to type at a speed of 25 WPM by the end of the course. Students who are already familiar with proper keyboarding technique will have the opportunity to practice and progress to 45 WPM. This course may be taken more than once.

Computer Tutoring Section X

Register for a one-hour, one-on-one appointment for your technology needs. Topics include Mac/PC information, social media, email, and attachments. You might need assistance using iTunes, Microsoft Office, the internet, or saving, sending, or editing photographs. Get tips on backing up your work and virus prevention programs. Because it's your hour and we want to make sure your needs are satisfied, please respond to the brief questionnaire we will send you following registration!
Required: Bring your MacBook or PC laptop, or use one of our Windows laptops.
Jeanne Cassidy, MA, CPCM, PMP, has worked with computers for 30+ years in the military and aerospace industries. She enjoys sharing her extensive experience with people who want to become more familiar with existing technology.
Driver's Education: Topsham

Are you 15 years of age or older and want your State of Maine permit to prepare for your driving exam? We offer driver education courses to help build strong, safe, and confident drivers. Students are awarded an instructional permit upon successful completion of the course with a grade of 80 percent or better. Only employee discounts are allowed, but you must call to register. Total hours of instruction is 40; 30 classroom and 10 driving. A full payment of $535 is required at the time of registration. If a student withdraws from the course, $75 is withheld from the refund to cover program costs. Only employee discounts for this class.
