This course taps into your healing resources through, calming breathing practices, meditation techniques, in-class prompt-inspired journal writing, and gentle Qigong movements. These activities will be followed by class discussions on how to integrate healing resources into your daily life. Improve your concentration and discover new ways to relax and restore in a fun and informal atmosphere with an experienced, certified instructor who has used these beneficial practices to enhance the quality of her own life. *No Class: 1/19 & 2/16.

Hand Stamped 3D Mini Window Card and Bookmark

In this class, we will follow step by step instructions to create a mini window greeting card. You will leave with an adorable library themed 3D card! We will also make a book themed bookmark to keep or give to your favorite bookworm. Precut kits and envelopes are provided. Participants need a pair of scissors and colored pencils or markers.

Yogalates

This class blends the core-strengthening and flexibility-enhancing benefits of Pilates with the mindful movement and breathwork of yoga. Expect plank variations, core-focused movements, and exercises using a small ball or resistance band. Standing poses, floor sequences, and mindful breathing practices. Modifications offered to accommodate different experience levels and abilities.

Social Event Dancing I

Do you go to weddings, family and school reunions or planning a cruise and would like to participate when dancing is offered? Maybe you participated in the past and feel a bit rusty with certain dance moves? How about learning basic foxtrot, waltz, and swing (jitterbug) moves and enjoy getting your groove back. Also dance has additional benefits related to active aging such as improving posture, balance, and cognition. Come with a dance partner or solo. The summer social engagements are right around the corner. See you on the dancefloor.

Memoir Writing

Have you desired to write your memoir but don’t know how to get started? Have you started but feel stuck? If you need direction and guidance for your writing this course is for you! Instruction will focus on the craft of writing (setting a scene, dialogue, voice, showing vs. telling, character development, etc.) along with feedback on your writing. Memoir writing is a discovery process in which you weave life experiences into a coherent pattern. Come and enjoy the exciting process of writing in an informal, friendly, atmosphere with an instructor with decades of teaching experience and the author of two memoirs.

Meditation and Stress Management

Have you wondered why people meditate or how to counter your stress patterns more effectively? This class will assist you in establishing a meditation and mindfulness practice and introduce you to restorative Qigong movements that help reduce stress and anxiety. The class is taught in an informal, personalized manner by a certified stress management instructor with over twenty years of meditation experience. Please bring along a cushion or small blanket.

Intermediate Zentangle and Collaborative Drawing

This is a 3-part Hands-on workshop for people with a basic understanding of the Zentangle drawing technique. This class will build upon the basics and teach intermediate patterns and projects. As a bonus, during the final class we will work on a collaborative piece and each participant will receive a copy to see how the synergy of collaboration is sometimes greater than the sum of its individual parts.

Paint Night: Stone Bridge

Stone Bridges are old and beautiful and there's lots of them right here in Maine. In this class you will learn to paint a foggy stone bridge scene with layers of trees in the distance. No Prior experience is necessary; Shirley welcomes beginners with open arms. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up a brush for the first time you’ll find this to be a fun and engaging class. Canvas and paints are supplied.
