Perfect for beginners, this hands-on class introduces the basics of cold process goat milk soap making. Learn soap-making safety, ingredients, equipment, and the step-by-step process of creating nourishing soap. Each participant will make a 2.5-pound batch (about 10 bars) to take home and cure, gaining confidence to continue soap making independently. This all-levels class explores botanical illustration with watercolor, pen and ink. Students will learn principles of scientific illustration through painting subjects ranging from mushrooms to wildflowers, focusing on observational drawing and precision watercolor painting techniques. This gentle class is for those looking to stretch, connect to the breath and practice traditional yoga postures, at a slow pace. We gently and safely encourage our muscle tissues to deeply lengthen and stretch, increasing range of motion and flexibility. Conscious intention and awareness are given to the breath, strengthening the nervous system and deepening the connection to mind and body. This class is designed for new, as well as, seasoned yogis looking for a mindful, gentle practice. *No Class: 2/17, 2/18.

Have you taken the Introduction to Zentangle class and are wondering where to go next? In this class, we’ll play with different tangles, different materials and different approaches using the base of your initial Zentangle experience. All supplies needed will be provided.

The five-string banjo is a blast to play! Learn the basics of chording, strumming, and finger picking and play some tunes! We’ll focus on playing clawhammer (“old-time”) and folk-style (think Pete Seeger) playing. Wouldn’t you like every day to be a banjo day! A three-week series of book arts classes that will include making our own book cloth & decorative paste papers. Covering book boards with our fabrics, binding our books and casing them into the covers. All while we learn the basics of book binding tools & vocabulary. Soapstone is a beautiful material, very forgiving, easy and satisfying to carve and polish, and gets artists thinking about subtractive process sculpture. You will start with small forms (which make wonderful gifts, by the way) and by the end of the course, you may be able to move toward larger work. The instructor Ed Higgins calls soapstone a gateway stone which perhaps one day will inspire you to carve marble! Soapstone will be available to students and some carving tools will be available for use, but you may want to assemble some of your own tools.
