Introduction to Recreational Kayaking - Session II

Come learn the essential skills and knowledge the novice kayaker or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler needs for recreational kayaking. In this 3 hour on-the-water instruction, we will cover a variety of kayaking fundamentals from safety equipment, rescue techniques, smooth entering and exiting, weather and water conditions and more. Learn the basic types of kayaks and how to select the one that is best for you. Co-owners of Sebago Trails Paddling Company, Bill and daughter Katelyn, have over 30 years of paddling experience and instruction between them. Kayaks, paddles and PFD’s for all on-the-water instruction will be provided. Class limit: 12. After the classes each student is invited to join our meetup group, Windham Raymond Paddling Club. This club schedules paddle meetups about once a week from April to October, each time at a different local launch site. There is no cost to join this group. Session II: Saturday, 6/1, 10:00am-1:00pm, $24 *Same class offered on three different dates. All classes will be held at Sebago Trails Paddling Co., 1311 Roosevelt Trail, Raymond

Want to try the fastest-growing paddle sport in the nation? Here is a great opportunity for the novice SUP-er or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler. Come learn the essential skills and knowledge you need for Stand-Up Paddling, on boards especially designed for ease of use and learning. In this one-day, on-the-water instruction, we will cover the basics of SUP’s, types of boards, getting on and off, basic paddle strokes and essential safety issues. Then there will be plenty of time to practice in a quiet, flat water environment. SUP’s, paddles and PFD’s for all on-the-water instruction will be provided. Class limit 12. Participants must be at least 17 years of age. Maine’s Driving Dynamics course offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. This five-hour course will include discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. Students completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. A certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor teaches this course. 2 classes – Monday, 5/13 & Wednesday, 5/15, 6:00-8:30pm, GMS, $40 See additional listing for drivers 65 and older.

It looks impressively complicated but fresh filled pasta is easy to make. Chris will teach you how to make great pasta dough with delicious fillings. Take the dough and the fillings to create ravioli and tortellini pasta. Top with a simple sauce and some grated cheese before sitting down together to enjoy your creations. Those in the know bring containers in case there’s anything to bring home! Chris Toy has over 30 years as a Maine public school teacher, principal and as a private cooking instructor for area kitchen stores and several Maine adult education programs. Wednesday, 5/15, 5:30pm-7:30pm, GMS, $34, includes food fee. Please note our policy: Cooking classes require a 5-day cancellation notice as they require the advance purchase of perishable products.
