High School Completion
Algebra and Number Skills: Online College Support
with January Hapworth, RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education
Note: This class will be offered virtually through a combination of email, texting, Zoom, and/or online learning. Students may occasionally be required to come to Skowhegan Area High School for testing. A math CASAS score of 225 or above is recommended for this class.
These online tutoring sessions will help support students who are enrolled or are prepariung to enroll in Algebra I and/or entry-level college math.
Sessions must be scheduled with the instructor. Contact the Adult Education office at 207-474-7553 for more details.
HiSET 201
with RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education
This class is designed to help students master the knowledge and skills neccesary to pass the HiSET exam. Think you’re the only one who doesn’t know how to divide fractions? Do you dread having to write an essay for the high school equivalency test? Do not be discouraged – we can help!
Join this class, where you will gain new knowledge and skills and have fun at the same time. Online test preparation will also be available.
Students will have the option of participating remotely or in person. Remote learners will still come to SAHS for occasional testing.
Prerequisite: Must complete HiSET 101 prior to starting this class.
Reading and Writing Skills: Online College Support

HiSET Math Prep

This course will help prepare you with the skills needed to pass the HiSET Math exam. Topics include: Numbers and Operations; Exponents and Roots; Decimals, Fractions, and Percents; Rates, Ratios, and Proportions; Measurements; Geometry; Statistics; and Algebra. HiSET Prep

During this course you will prepare for the HiSET exam in the areas of Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Schedule set with student at enrollment.
Algebra
with Vanessa Richards, Ellsworth Adult and Community Education
Learn Algebra in a fun and relaxed atmosphere including direct instruction, hands-on activities and online learning. To be successful in Algebra, you should be somewhat confident in operations with arithmetic. If you need to brush up on the basics, we have courses to get you ready for this college prerequisite high school diploma level course. This college pre-requisite course is offered for high school diploma credit.

Vanessa loves working with adult learners. She is really easy to be around and makes people extremely comfortable; she even makes learning math and computers fun! She is committed to helping adults discover their strengths, build their confidence, and realize they can accomplish their goals. In her free time, she loves to travel and explore the outdoors. Vanessa teaches math, science, technology, and provides college and career advising.

Get started in the HiSET® Program by attending our orientation for new students. Orientation will provide an overview of the HiSET® process and guide participants through intake, assessment, and pre-testing. Workshops on college and career planning, financial literacy, and technology skills (all essential skills for success at college and in the workplace) will be provided.
Attendance at orientation classes is mandatory.
At the end of orientation, students will be referred to final HiSET® testing or scheduled for additional academic help.
Classes begin every 4 weeks --- call 474-7553 to schedule your orientation.
