This program assists students in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. Prerequisite: Completion of Beginning Level ESOL or appropriate scores on CASAS reading literacy test (201-220, ESL Levels 4-5). Students must meet with the ABE Coordinator for registration and testing. Runs virtually over Zoom. 

Note: The nature of this class requires a computer with good internet capability as well as Zoom app downloaded prior to first day of class. If a student misses 3 classes, student will be withdrawn. May re-enroll in the next session and when able to commit to schedule.

Through Zoom, students will learn to speak, listen, read and write in English using practical everyday topics. This course is for ESOL students who test between 191-200 on CASAS reading test (ESL 3).

Advanced Level ESOL

This course is designed for students who have some advanced English language skills. Students will practice communication skills in everyday situations and build a larger vocabulary through listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar activities. The use of technology will also be integrated. Prerequisite: Completion of Intermediate Level ESOL or appropriate score on CASAS test (221-235+, ESL 6 and above). Rolling admissions.

Note: This class will be offered virtually through Zoom. Students will occasionally be required to come to Skowhegan Area High School for testing.

This class assists students who are not native English speakers develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Instruction is designed to meet learners’ needs and can include helping participants with such important tasks as exploring how to talk with their child’s teacher, scheduling healthcare appointments, completing grocery shopping, obtaining a driver’s license, finding employment or learning about other valuable community resources. Students can enter the class at any time and there is no charge for instruction. Learners at all levels of English proficiency are welcome. For more information, please call 474-7553.

You will learn to speak, read, understand, and write English with more confidence as well as get help speaking with teachers, making appointments and shopping. Language skills necessary to get and hold a job are part of the course as well. Students can enroll and join this free class at any time.
