Certified Nurses Assistant - CNA
If you are seeking a challenging and rewarding career in the medical field, this course will provide you with the skills and experiences to be Maine State Certified as a Nursing Assistant. This regional collaboration has allowed us to offer this course at a reduced cost! Skills will be taught in an interactive classroom setting, and a two-week clinical experience will follow. The course will focus on nursing theory and application, including basic anatomy, physiology, and clinical performance. The course will also introduce you to several employers within our region.
Prerequisites: students must successfully pass the CASAS testing and interview screening in order to be admitted to the program. Applicants are encouraged to job shadow a CNA before interviewing. Documentation of a recent medical physical, conducted and signed by a physician, is required before clinical. Students must produce evidence of the following vaccinations: Hep B1, MMR, Tetanus, Chicken Pox, TB and flu shot. Fee for background check is non-refundable.

The course includes 110 hours of classroom instruction plus 70 hours of clinical practice at local health care facilities.. Our CNA program is a state approved 180 hour course designed to prepare students for the state certified nurses assistant exam and the rigors of working in the field. Students interested in the program need to contact GNG Adult Education as soon as possible to obtain an information packet and schedule a CASAS exam.
Victim Advocacy Certificate 3/9
with Center for Legal Studies, Sanford Community Adult Education
Become a victim advocate for domestic violence shelters, crisis centers and hotlines, and to assist crime victims in the criminal justice system. Learn legal terminology, legal process, victims’ rights, jurisdiction and venue, ethics, effects on the victim, victim advocacy skills, guardianships and crisis intervention. We’ll also cover counseling skills for victims of assault, battery, robbery, domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, murder and homicide. Books: $60

CDL: Class B Course

Gorham/Westbrook CTE Adult Education program is offering our next CDL-B class.
This course prepares students to succeed in meeting the Maine DMV class B driving requirements. This course consists classroom instruction, designed to prepare students for the state CDL written exam and one-on-one driving instruction, to prepare students for the state required road test.
We are offering this course with a summer discount.
Chemistry for College & Career Prep

This 7 week course will dive into the most important concepts in chemistry needed to succeed in a college chemistry classroom. Everything from particle diagrams to stoichiometry will be covered as students gradually develop a particulate model of how matter behaves by observing and interpreting experimental evidence. The course is designed to make learning chemistry easy and offers students individualized instruction, a variety of learning mediums, simplified concepts and even virtual labs all in a remote setting. Start building the foundation you need to enter medical and science majors with confidence and tools to succeed.Dates are Mondays and Thursdays 8:30-10:00am July 6-Aug 20.

Completion of the Academy results in the industry approved CompTIA® A+ certification and prepares you for employment as a computer user support specialist/help desk technician. Participants will receive 3 YCCC credits.
