This course serves as a refresher or new training to hone your reading and writing skills for college or your career pathway. We will write resumes and applications, reports, prepare presentations, and practice how to write an informational essay/research paper. We will read from informational texts and learn study skills to help you succeed in your new adventures. And we will try to make it fun along the way! Please also register for a College/Career Transitions Intake session in order to qualify to take this class.

Reading, Writing and Arithmetic FUNdamentals

Would you like to improve your skills in the 3 R’s? The coursework focuses on Reading (alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension), Writing (sentence, paragraph and short essays or stories) and Arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions and percentages). Classes are offered in a small group setting and will proceed at an individualized pace. Students must meet with ABE Coordinator Catherine Renaud for testing and registration. Please call 892-1819 to make an appointment. No class 2/20, 4/17.

Els Bennett has worked as an Education Technician for RSU 14. She works for WRAE as a math tutor for HiSET program as well as teaching in the literacy and ESOL programs.

Volunteer Tutor Training Online Hybrid-Bangor (Evening Session)

Literacy Volunteers of Bangor will offer the online tutor training developed by ProLiteracy for its member organizations with a pilot hybrid starting in January 2019. The training is offered in partnership with Ellsworth Adult Education. By taking this training you can prepare to be an ESL or Basic Reading tutor.  The introductory session is an orientation so you can attend to decide if you'd like to pursue the training.  This first and the last sessions will be 'live' (in person) and the intervening 12-16 hours will be completed online with access to online discussion with a cohort and local facilitator supporting you.  Participants must be self directed, and possess an intermediate level of internet and computer experience.  Face to face sessions will be held Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor 6:00p-8:00p, Thursday 01/24/19 and 03/07/19.

A contribution of $35.00 defrays the cost of the textbook and training materials; scholarships are available.
