HiSET (The High School Equivalency Test)
with Multiple Instructors, South Portland Adult Education

The High School Equivalency Test (HiSET®) is a way for people who didn't finish high school to earn a diploma and get on track for college or a career. The exam has five parts: Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Writing.
The state of Maine uses HiSET® for high school equivalencies, not GED. Your HSE credential will be accepted by every state, territory and jurisdiction, as well as by the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. military, and federal programs.
Eligibility:
- Age: You must be at least 17 years old. You must have withdrawn from high school to enroll in HiSET®.
- Residency: You must provide a government issued photo ID and (if needed) one other form of identification with your Maine address to prove you are a resident of Maine.
- Cost: The HiSET® program is free to Maine residents when taken through Maine Adult Education.
- English Skills: Multilingual learners are eligible to enroll when they have a CASAS score of 239.

Adult High School Diploma
with Academic Instructor, Lake Region & Fryeburg Area Adult Education
Take classes and earn credits towards completing your high school diploma. Subjects are assigned based on students needs.

The Learning Center is open to all adults in need of academic instruction and guidance. Hours vary by day, and we will try to meet you on your schedule. Our staff provides individualized instruction in the areas of:
- High School Equivalency
- HiSET Prep
- Accuplacer Prep
- Math and ELA instruction to prepare you for college-level coursework
- General reading, writing, and math tutoring for anyone pursuing college or career education
- Workforce credential or certification tutoring and prep
- College and Career advising
All services through the Learning Center are FREE of charge. If you or anyone you know could use any of these services, please contact us.

Biology with Lab
with Learning Center Staff, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education
For any and all students who are prepping for Nursing or Medical Laboratory Technology admissions review, this is an excellent opportunity to meet the admissions “Biology with lab” prerequisite. If you have been away from science courses for a while, this course is recommended to prep you for rigorous college science classes. Students who successfully complete this class will earn 1 high school credit. Spring semester.
CASAS Assessment
with Spruce Mountain Adult Education
Are you interested in pursuing an Adult Education Diploma, HiSET, Maine College and Career Access, or ELL (English Language Learner)?
Whatever your educational goals, we are here to support you every step of the way.
The CASAS assessment, required before registration, helps us place you in the perfect courses.
We offer both paper-and-pencil and computer-based assessments for your convenience.
A $10 testing fee will be waived upon enrollment in our program.
Chemistry with Lab

Students who successfully complete this class will earn 1 high school credit. This course is appropriate for students prepping for college or completing an adult education diploma. If you have been away from science courses for a while, this course may prep you for rigorous college science classes. Maybe you would like to take a gap year? Our college and career advisor can meet with you to complete career assessments, explore options that fit your needs, and make a plan to help you reach your goals. Get side by side support when applying for financial aid, scholarships, placement in workforce training programs and/or internships. Assistance to create resumes and with interview preparation is available. Additionally basic math, algebra, writing, and English courses are available if needed to help you improve your core skills.
