Our HiSET preparation learning labs are designed to help students preparing to take the HiSET in math, reading, writing, science or social studies. These labs are available on a drop in basis for students working on any subject and instructors provide direct instruction in an individualized environment. Students may work in small groups or independently, depending on the number of students and their needs. Additionally, students will be eligible to register on our online learning platform to access instructional material at home.

If you are an adult without a high school diploma, the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) program could be your route to improved career prospects, a college education and increased earnings potential. Adult diploma programs are central to the mission and tradition of Maine Adult Education. Get your diploma and be one step closer to achieving your life's goals! Our daytime learning center is open only by appointment due to Covid-19 restrictions, but we have an active tutoring program available via Zoom.  Email us or call our office to get started on your journey to a diploma or beyond!

The 180 hour Certified Nursing Assistant Course is designed to prepare the student to be a Nursing Assistant. Call the Adult Ed Office at 778-3460 for application, registration requirements and placement on a waiting list. Details regarding dates, location and fees will be provided to participants as the class list is completed.

Assessments required

Do you have a desire to care for elderly and start working in the healthcare field? Be a Certified Nursing Assistant and enjoy the outstanding benefits that you get in this industry.

 First, you must complete a state-approved education program. Next, you must pass a competency exam. Requirements vary from state to state, so check with our program for details.

 The course will consist of one hundred (180) hours of instruction. Ninety (90) hours will be spent in the classroom, twenty (20) hours skills lab, and seventy (70) hours of clinical experience in a long-term health-care facility.

The Learning Center is open to all adults in need of academic instruction and guidance. Hours vary by day, and we will try to meet you on your schedule. Our staff provides individualized instruction in the areas of:

  • High School Equivalency
  • HiSET Prep
  • Accuplacer Prep
  • Math and ELA instruction to prepare you for college-level coursework
  • General reading, writing, and math tutoring for anyone pursuing college or career education
  • Workforce credential or certification tutoring and prep
  • College and Career advising

All services through the Learning Center are FREE of charge. If you or anyone you know could use any of these services, please contact us.

Please note we have a number of credit courses offered for students who are missing the HS credits needed in order to enter their college program of choice. 

Sample online courses include:

• Various electives in Art, Health and the Social Sciences 

• HiSET Preparation and Career Technical Education

Please note that all students who are taking academic classes must register with Adult Education and schedule an Intake Session. Our funding is dependent upon having the correct information in our files and the purpose of intake is to gather as much pertinent information as we can about your educational goals so that we can assist you in reaching those goals. Whether you are working towards  HiSET/adult HS diploma, College or a Career certification or are an English language learner we are here to help you.  Please call anytime for assistance.

 

HiSET Preparation

This is a small, individualized class or individualized online instruction designed to assist students with completing their high school diploma by concentrating on what they need to successfully complete all five HiSET tests. Students will have access to HiSET Academy, an online learning platform. Pre-tests are administered in class to determine readiness for the Official HiSET tests. All services are FREE.
