Bring a sketchbook and pencil and join us for an afternoon of drawing in one of Maine's fabulous art museums. Forge an intimate connection with museum collections, while improving your own work by studying the techniques of the masters. Guidance and critical feedback are provided as needed. At the end of our visit, we will meet up to share our results with the group. Museum admission is included in fee. Location: Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville. Participants will meet at the museum.

This is a beautiful three-hour educational, and ecological tour to the farthest reaches of Messalonskee Lake aboard the Snowdrifter II--a 25’ Godfrey Sanpan Limited Edition Luxury Cruiser. You will see firsthand invasive milfoil as it passes alongside the boat just inches below the lake surface; learn about statewide eradication efforts all while enjoying the natural beauty of Messalonskee Lake. Search for Sandhill Cranes and endangered Least Bittern and Black Tern as we travel through the 1300-acre emergent wetland known as the Messalonskee Lake Marsh. The North American Bald Eagles may make their presence known, and you will learn about the history of the area and the lake. Captain Gary is a Registered Maine Guide and licensed commercial boat operator. Rain date will be announced later if needed. This is a handicap accessible boat for normal-size wheelchairs. Students must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian if between ages 10 and 17. Bathrooms available on shore, if necessary. Humans have been weaving baskets for hundreds of thousands of years. Many plant materials may be used to weave with: vines, leaves, bark, wood, and more. Basket weaving requires various skills, all involving twisting and pulling and wrapping the materials around each other. Weaving a small project, like a fish (pictured), or a heart or five-pointed star, along with other shapes, can provide a comprehensive, beginner-friendly introduction to most of the skills required for full-scale basketry. Learn to make a beautiful woven window feeder for birds! We'll cover identification, responsible collection, materials processing and storage, and creation, including the basics of stake-and-strand waling and randing weaves.

Through a series of gentle movements, grounded in mindfulness of the body, heart, & mind, connect to your inner resources. All in the comfort of your own home! Experience greater health and well-being while releasing tension & stress by practicing somatic exercises, Qigong, guided meditation, and intuitive self-guided movement.

Learn to create a traditional style sliding lid box with simple joints, using both hand and power tools, primarily a table saw. The basic design can be sized for anything from a ring, to candles, to wine bottles, and more. Variations of design, joinery and methods will be demonstrated. Each participant will be able to make a box and take it and their newfound skill home with them. All material will be provided.

Join Master Maine Guide Alice starting early morning to avoid the winds on Mere Point Bay. While we’re paddling in solo and tandem sea kayaks, you’ll learn about aquaculture in Maine – fishing, clamming, scallop and oyster farming. You’ll learn about the area’s natural and human history. We’ll be visiting an oyster farm and then land on an island where you’ll learn to shuck oysters and then taste your success. This tour is beginner and family friendly. Sea kayaks, life jackets, and paddles are provided. You provide water and snacks.

Learn to sew! In this class you will learn both machine sewing and hand sewing techniques. In machine sewing you will learn how to make a small envelope pillow with pillow insert, a zippered pouch, a key fob, and small tote among other things. Along the way you will also learn sewing machine safety and sewing basics such as how to use and care for the machine, measuring and cutting fabric, and use of sewing tools. In hand sewing you will learn the whipstitch, ladder stitch, and how to sew on a button. Sewing machines will be supplied but feel free to bring your own working machine if you'd like. Tools will be supplied. Class is suitable for ages 10-13.
