Come join Elise Marie DeSigns where you will learn hand stamping techniques and create your very own hand stamped necklace. Pick from letters, numbers and so many fun stamps like suns, ying yangs, evil eyes, waves, mountains and more to make a necklace that speaks to you. It's a great opportunity to unleash your inner artist and create unique jewelry pieces that you can wear or gift to loved ones. No experience is necessary, as Elise will guide you through the process step by step. We hope to see you there!

Introduction to Metalworking

Make a pair of fine silver earrings!

Unlock the basics of metalworking in this beginner-friendly course. Learn essential techniques like cutting, shaping, heating, and polishing metal to create a unique pair of earrings from start to finish. Using simple, accessible tools like a handheld kitchen torch and small metal anvils, students will practice with copper and brass before completing a final piece in silver. This class is perfect for those looking to bring metalworking into their home or pop-up studio. Registration closes at noon on 3/24.

 Jessica Muise, a multidisciplinary artist and educator has been teaching and making art throughout New England for the last 15 years. She is passionate about using the arts as tools for social change and serves as a creative economy advisor to several arts organizations and artist-led coalitions.

Maine Driving Dynamics

with Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education

This five-hour program covers crash prevention for drivers of all ages and is cosponsored by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. Those completing the course will receive a three-point reduction on their driver’s license. It is a 5 hour class split into two sections of 2.5 hours on Tuesday + Thursday. Participants must attend both classes to earn the certificate of completion and point reduction.

Mobile-Making Workshop

Have you ever wondered how a mobile gets balanced? This workshop is a glance behind the scenes. During the first class we will create some simple shapes out of recycled box board to learn the mechanics of mobile making. In the second class we will refine our mobiles and create them out of colored paper. Please bring scissors. This will get you started to make a more beautifully finished piece at home. Should you want to decorate your piece in class, you are welcome to bring some markers or colored paper and glue to the class. There will be a handout, so you don’t forget the steps.

Oil Painting: What's Hidden in the Trees

Into the woods we go to discover the many species of trees and the companions they protect. Our main focus for this semester will be the wonderful trees of Maine, but hidden amongst the branches or behind the tree trunks can be glimpses of the creatures that live among them. Supplies needed: oil paints, 2-3 brushes, a painting or palette knife, a 16 x 20 canvas, and a palette or palette paper. A general materials list can be obtained through the Adult Ed office. Class skips 4/22.

Organic Gardening: Intensive and Companion Planting

Learn how to combine two of the oldest and most adventurous gardening techniques, Intensive and Companion planting!

Intensive planting has its own list of benefits, including additional planting space and increased harvest.

It’s inspiring to add the additional benefits of companion planting.

Explore how the combination leads to a more beautiful garden, increased and more diverse harvest, improved habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and contributes to both water conservation and weed suppression.

We’ll also discuss how succession planting can fit nicely into the planting scheme, adding still more to your garden.

A chance to learn about different types of poetry formats and to experiment with writing format poetry.  Also, to explore ways of editing, breaking through writer's block and publishing.

Classes are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday.
