He is also a resource to connect you with service agencies once you have completed the training.
Heartsaver® CPR & First Aid for Adults & Children
with Karl Finley, EMT-P, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education
Acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to handle first aid, choking, or sudden cardiac arrest situations until emergency medical assistance arrives. Learn how to handle scenarios including bleeding, sprains, bone fractures, and shock. Learn to operate an AED and give CPR to infants, children and adults. Certifications in first aid and CPR are valid for two years and meet the requirements for child care providers.
Karl Finley, an EMT/Paramedic who has served as a volunteer fireman with the Scarborough Fire Department for more than 20 years, previously spent 19 years at the Saco Fire Department. He has 11 years of experience instructing CPR and has been the public education coordinator for nine years.

Becoming a Notary Public
with Bethany Mulkern, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education
The main responsibility of a notary is to formally witness transactions involving paper documents and, in Maine, to perform marriage ceremonies. Study the office's history as well as its responsibilities, qualifications and record-keeping requirements. You must live in ME or be a NH resident regularly employed or with a business/trade in Maine. Leave with the test completed and a plan in place for turning in your paperwork. A notary license is $50 and valid for seven years.
Bethany Mulkern has been a notary public since May 2019 and has performed various notarial duties, including weddings. As a result, she is well-versed in all aspects of the role of a notary public and has a great deal of enthusiasm about the subject matter, which she's excited to share with her students!

Alice Haiss Scholarship Fund
with RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education
Alice Haiss of Skowhegan worked as an adult education teacher for many years as part of the Somerset County Basic Skills Program. She was a literacy, basic skills, GED Preparation and English as a Second Language teacher at the program's Learning Center. She also taught GED Preparation, basic and life skills at the Somerset County Jail for years. During that period, she took part in a federal grant project called the Esteem Machine that combined the teaching of life skills with academic skills.
Haiss also worked for Educational Skills, Inc., where she facilitated Project Resiliency, and intervention program to prevent female juvenile offenders from being incarcerated at a youth correctional center. The program focused on the development of problem solving, communication, team-building, and self-esteem building.
This scholarship will benefit any adult education learners who are pursuing education or training in high demand, high skill, or high wage occupations.
Awards will be announced yearly at the Adult Education Graduation in June.
