Note: This class will be offered virtually through a combination of email, texting, Zoom, and/or online learning. Students will occasionally be required to come to Skowhegan Area High School for testing.

This course will prepare students for Algebra I and/or entry-level college math. Whether you need a refresher before registering for your first college math course or need to improve your scores on the ACCUPLACER, you will find this course helpful. There will be a review of whole number operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, and other essential math skills. Word problems and the language of math will be explored.

English Language Learning (ELL) for Adults is to help students working towards improving their skills in English language basics through practicing speaking, listening, reading and writing.

 

HiSET 101 AM

This year we are excited to offer one of our HiSET 101 sessions online. Instruction will occur using tools like Zoom and Google Classroom. Students will still come in occasionally for one-on-one testing. COVID-19 cleaning and safety protocols will, of course, be followed.

Get started in the HiSET® Program by attending our orientation for new students. Orientation will provide an overview of the HiSET® process and guide participants through intake, assessment, and pre-testing. Workshops on college and career planning, financial literacy, and technology skills (all essential skills for success at college and in the workplace) will be provided.

Attendance at orientation classes is mandatory.

At the end of orientation, students will be referred to final HiSET® testing or scheduled for additional academic help.

Students must present a valid photo id and social security card at the first class.

Classes begin every 4 weeks --- call 474-7553 to schedule your orientation.

Reading and Writing Essentials for ESOL

Calendar Current session started Sep 8, 2020 at 9 am, runs for 15 weeks

Students will practice reading English used in life, for work, school, and entertainment. The class will also give students practice writing English paragraphs and essays for formal correspondence and academic writing. This course is for ESOL students who tested as high advanced on the CASAS test (221 or higher).

Both Reading and Writing Essentials and Reading and Writing Foundations for ESOL courses meet at the same time allowing students to interact in groups of various levels. Rolling admission. Call 207-892-1819 to set up an appointment with ABE Coordinator Cathy Giuffre-Renaud.
