This course provides students with an introduction to the major theories and concepts in chemistry. This science will be explored through lectures, lab activities, projects and research. Math skills needed to perform necessary calculations will also be reviewed. By the end of this course, students will have gained a true understanding of the composition of matter, how matter is categorized, how matter interacts, the Atomic Theory throughout history, the signs and causes of chemical reactions, and the properties and structure of matter. Furthermore, this course will allow students to improve upon their problem-solving skills and gain a true and deeper understanding of why they are seeing what they are seeing and just how much chemistry is used in everyday life. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn one high school diploma credit (a prerequisite for acceptance to several local college programs). NOTE: No class 7/7/2020 & 7/9/2020

Chemistry for College & Career Prep

This 7 week course will dive into the most important concepts in chemistry needed to succeed in a college chemistry classroom. Everything from particle diagrams to stoichiometry will be covered as students gradually develop a particulate model of how matter behaves by observing and interpreting experimental evidence. The course is designed to make learning chemistry easy and offers students individualized instruction, a variety of learning mediums, simplified concepts and even virtual labs all in a remote setting. Start building the foundation you need to enter medical and science majors with confidence and tools to succeed.Dates are Mondays and Thursdays 8:30-10:00am July 6-Aug 20. 

Kittery and Marshwood Adult Education are partnering to offer our community members course opportunities for career preparation in Water and Waste Water Treatment Management, Medical Careers, Vet. Tech., and more.

HiSET Preparation Learning Lab

Our HiSET preparation learning labs are designed to help students preparing to take the HiSET in math, reading, writing, science or social studies. These labs are available on a drop in basis for students working on any subject and instructors provide direct instruction in an individualized environment. Students may work in small groups or independently, depending on the number of students and their needs. Additionally, students will be eligible to register on our online learning platform to access instructional material at home.

This must be taken BEFORE you register for classes.

The scores from the CASAS are used to guide your placement into courses at the level that is perfect for you.  

All tests are held at Sanford Community Adult Education (Anderson Learning Center) Room 143 at 21 Bradeen Street, Sanford, Maine.

SCAE students attending academic classes do not pay registration fees for our classes. They do have to pay minimal materials and/or book fees which average about $45 per 60-hour class.  

We strive to keep costs down, but sometimes our students can’t afford this.  Your donation will help students with these unique challenges an opportunity to focus on their studies and not the finances.  Every donation, no matter the amount, is appreciated.  Disbursements from this fund are approved by the Administrators of SCAE on the basis of need.
