Math for the Trades W24
with Elizabeth Johnson, Augusta Adult and Community Education
This course is designed for students who are interested in a career in the trades or entering trade school, but would benefit from a comprehensive review of basic math skills necessary to succeed. Students will have the opportunity to practice fundamental math skills including working with fractions, decimals and percentages. Students will also have the opportunity to practice measurement, conversions and working with formulas, including basic trigonometry.
HiSET Appointment/Assessment & Learning Lab

Set up an appointment with adult education staff for intake, assessment and advising. After we get to know you and your goals, you will take the CASAS reading and math tests, which helps us determine your learning level. These are not graded and the score is informational. It helps us get to know you as a unique learner so we can support your educational goals. Once intake and assessment is complete, you can begin preparing for the HiSET by attending learning labs. A qualified instructor will help you strategize your learning tasks so you get the support you need in the areas you need it. HiSet (formerly known as GED)
Standard testing hours are 2:00p.m.- 7:00 pm Monday - Thursday or call for appointment to set up a testing time. Call 207-375-6605.
Participants must be at least 17 years old and have not completed their high school education. If under the age of 17, parent/guardian permission and involvement is required.
HiSet Prep and Practice begins with pre-testing in each of the 5 subject categories. Instruction is based on individual need and best practice. Learning platforms of small group, individual paper or online programming as well as one-on-one tutoring is available by appointment, at no additional cost.

Credit recovery can be arranged through M.A. Guidance and Adult Education offices. this is an independent course of study designed for you to recover credits. Testing must be done in person with the Plato Recovery Coordinator.

Get Ready for College Statistics - Online

Prepare for college statistics with our unique online course! Get a head start on learning the terms, symbols, and graphing calculator. This online course is for students who have placed into college statistics or those who are retaking the class.
Class will meet weekly on Zoom. Delayed viewing is available on an individual basis. Students will need a laptop, tablet or desktop (not a phone) with a camera and microphone, as well as high speed internet. Ideally, students will either have a TI-83 or 84 calculator to use or online statistical software. Outside homework will be given: expect 2-3 hours of homework a week outside of class. Students need recent assessment scores, which can be taken with us. No class April 16, 2024.

High School Biology with Lab (Remote)
with RSU #13 Adult and Community Education
For any and all students who are preparing for admissions review for competitive majors, this is an excellent opportunity to meet the admissions "Biology with lab" prerequisite. If you have been away from science courses for some time, this course is recommended to prep you for rigorous college science classes. Students who successfully complete the class will earn 1 high school credit. This course is provided at no cost to students through the Maine College and Career Access Services grant and RSU13 Adult & Community Education.
Biology with Lab is a fully remote course available online. No textbook or materials are required.
9-Week Course, Approximately 6 Hours of Course Time Per Week
One face-to-face video conference review session with the instructor will be offered each week. (Mondays, 7:30-8:30pm) It is strongly suggested that students attend this weekly class time; however, if schedule does not permit then individual video conference meetings may be arranged with the instructor throughout the course.
As with all Adult Education courses, advising and technology support is offered by our staff. This support may include: assistance with obtaining a program-loaned laptop; using Teams, Schoology and other online learning platforms; time management and study skill; financial aid and scholarship awareness; and college and career exploration.
