5 Types of Cover Letters

If you want to set yourself apart from others, you need to stand out. A cover letter isn't an outdated requirement, but a useful tool for advancement. Email, networking, prospective, apply, and job change cover letters are explained in this session with examples given. The instructor will also provide 1:1 support as a follow up for anyone who needs help in crafting a cover letter. Students must have an audio- and video-enabled laptop, desktop, or tablet with reliable internet to participate in class. We do not recommend using a smartphone.
Getting News & Information Online

With online content, we have a constant flow of information as well as misinformation. In this class we will look at ways to determine “real” news from “fake” news and then discover how to find the news & information you want using Blogs, Podcasts, online publications and much more.

Writing for the Workplace
with Briana Bizier, Portland Adult Education
Gain the skills and confidence to write effectively in today's workplace. Using a series of writing exercises, you will learn how to compose clear business letters, memos, and emails and format them correctly. Brush up on punctuation, sentence structure, and basic grammar rules to give your documents a final polish.
Course fee includes cost of book, $15.
Please note: the first and last day of this class will be held in person at Portland Adult Education.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer course or familiarity with computers

COMPUTER LITERACY FOR ADULTS & SENIORS, Session 1

It’s not just a matter of teaching old, young, or other “dogs” new tricks. You can do it! Technology is more user-friendly than you may realize. Learn the basics of informational and transferable skills focusing on what you want to do and how to simplify life using your computer, laptop, or tablet as well as the Internet and Gmail. Bring your laptop or tablet. If you need one to use, just let us know. Please pre-register as space is limited.

Google Suite for the Office

Google Suite for the Office introduces students to Google Apps including but not limited to:
- Gmail
- Google Drive
- Google Docs
- Google Sheets
- Google Slides
- Google Calendar
- Google Meet
It explores the uses of these Apps and their basic functions which will allow the users to increase their productivity and collaboration. Students in this class will learn how to utilize these cloud computing tools to increase productivity, communication and collaboration at school and in the workplace.

Microsoft Office Suite 2
with Barbara Mascarenas, Portland Adult Education
This class is intended for the person who has prior experience using Microsoft Office products. We will cover work related skills; building tables, mail merge and graphics using Word. We will create a slide show using PowerPoint that will include graphics, transition and animations. Additionally, we will explore MS Outlook and Outlook calendar. This will be taught using Microsoft Teams as the remote platform.
Prerequisite: Microsoft Office Suite 1 or instructor approval

Workplace Communication
with Taika Brand, Portland Adult Education
Learn how to more successfully and effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, and teams in an office environment. Skills covered include listening, oral communication that involves speaking assertively, positively, and clearly, and handling difficult situations in the workplace with conflict resolution skills. Other skills practiced will include customer service communication skills and communication issues in a team-based environment and how to ace an interview.
