FAME: Adulting 101: Money Starts

Adulting is tough. Finances can be one of the trickiest parts of adulthood. Whether you’ve been Adulting for decades or are just getting started, banking basics, spending plans, credit scores and useful tools and apps are available to make the whole Adulting thing a little bit easier. Join Steve Kautz from the Finance Authority of Maine for this 1-hour virtual workshop as we dive into some adulting money basics together.

We are happy to partner with FAME, (the Finance Authority of Maine), to present a series of free, virtual workshops on scholarships, planning to pay for college, loans, and financial wellness.

A zoom link will be sent with your registration confirmation email, as well as with a reminder email whcih will be sent out 2 days prior to the workshop.  Workshops will be recorded and shared with you.

FAME administers Maine’s higher education finance programs. Through a variety of loan, grant and scholarship programs, FAME helps Maine students and families meet the costs associated with higher education.

High School Biology with Lab (Remote)

with TBD, RSU #13 Adult and Community Education

Calendar Apr 22, 2024 , runs for 9 weeks

For any and all students who are preparing for admissions review for competitive majors, this is an excellent opportunity to meet the admissions "Biology with lab" prerequisite. If you have been away from science courses for some time, this course is recommended to prep you for rigorous college science classes. Students who successfully complete the class will earn 1 high school credit. This course is provided at no cost to students through the Maine College and Career Access Services grant and RSU13 Adult & Community Education.

Biology with Lab is a fully remote course available online. No textbook or materials are required.

9-Week Course, Approximately 6 Hours of Course Time Per Week

 

One face-to-face video conference review session with the instructor will be offered each week. (Mondays, 7:30-8:30pm) It is strongly suggested that students attend this weekly class time; however, if schedule does not permit then individual video conference meetings may be arranged with the instructor throughout the course.

As with all Adult Education courses, advising and technology support is offered by our staff. This support may include: assistance with obtaining a program-loaned laptop; using Teams, Schoology and other online learning platforms; time management and study skill; financial aid and scholarship awareness; and college and career exploration.

Is higher education in your family’s future?  Join a college savings specialist from the Finance Authority of Maine to talk about planning and saving for higher education. Come learn about the aspirational and financial impacts of savings for students of all ages, as well as the program highlights of Maine’s Section 529 plan, a tool many families use to prepare for higher education expenses. Also, take home some tips and tricks for getting a jump-start on the scholarship search while your child is in middle school/ early high school.  Join Marie Pelletier, College Savings Counselor from the Finance Authority of Maine for this 1 hour virtual session and get started with saving for your child or grandchild’s higher education.
