Are you thinking about making a change in your job or career? Are you considering going back to school to further your training or education, but are not sure of your options? Our college and career advisor can meet with you to complete career assessments, explore options that fit your needs, and make a plan to help you reach your goal. Get side by side support with applying for financial aid and scholarships, placement in workforce training programs, resume writing, and interview skills. Additionally, basic Math, Algebra, and English courses are available, if needed, to help you improve your core skills. We’re here to assist you with your transition to a new job or training program.
Number Skills for College - Online

Note: This class will be offered virtually through a combination of email, texting, Zoom, and/or online learning. Students may occasionally be required to come to Skowhegan Area High School for testing.
This course will prepare students for Algebra I and/or entry-level college math. Whether you need a refresher before registering for your first college math course or need to improve your scores on the ACCUPLACER, you will find this course helpful. There will be a review of whole number operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, and other essential math skills. Word problems and the language of math will be explored.
Reading Skills for College
with Mariah Smith, RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education

Effective reading comprehension is essential to success at the college level and to advance in one’s career. This course is designed to help students improve reading comprehension and critical analysis. An emphasis is placed on developing vocabulary and improving reading speed. Assignments introduce students to college level textbooks, outlining strategies, and critical researching skills.
Remote instruction by appointment on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Writing Skills for College
with Mariah Smith, RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education

This course will cover the grammar and writing skills that are required for success in college level courses. Whether you need to brush-up your skills before attending college, need to improve your ACCUPLACER or CASAS scores, or need to earn a high school credit, you will find this course practical and useful.
Remote instruction by appointment on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
English Lab
with Rita Pender, Kittery Adult Education

Increase your skills in reading and vocabulary development. Lessons will meet students needs to read more difficult materials needed for workforce advancement, and the HiSET, ASVAB, and Acuplacer assessments. This course is free to elegible adult education students. A fee of $70 will be charged to people who are not adult education students. Call to see if you qualify and to sign up.
