The American Heart Association Heart saver CPR/AED Course is designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for victims of all ages to lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. Course is ideal for any person interested in being trained for response to a sudden cardiac emergency in the home, school, or community.

Knowledge and skills for the use of an Automated External Defibrillator will also be included. Two year AHA Heart saver Certification awarded upon course completion.

Materials: $5 per student to be paid to instructor first night of class. A minimum of 5 students for class to run with a maximum of 8 students.

This certification class is perfect for bus drivers, teachers, parents, child care providers, summer camp counselors and others. Students receive hands-on instruction and practice in first aid emergencies including how to care for bleeding, bone fractures, head injuries, heat/cold emergencies, allergic reactions, poisoning, airway obstruction, etc.

Participants will learn to recognize and provide care for persons of all ages who have experienced a sudden illness or injury until Emergency Medical Services arrive and take over. Following current Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines, students will learn to recognize a heart attack and what do in this situation, including providing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Students will also learn to recognize stroke, breathing emergencies, and how to treat burns. Additional skills include caring for choking adults, children and infants, and controlling bleeding, as well as checking responsive persons. Certificate and reference card included. Presented by Maine Safety Education

Learn basic American Sign Language, including the manual alphabet, fingerspelling, basic vocabulary (colors, numbers, animals, etc.), basic grammar, and an introduction to Deaf culture. 

Enhance your communication with Deaf and hard of hearing family, friends, co-workers, and customers. Late-deafened adults are welcome, as are highly motivated high school students, and care givers interested in "baby sign."  No previous sign language experience is necessary. ASL is a visual language so no textbooks are required. The instructor will provide all  materials. ASL I is taught in voice.  

Join Martin Samelson, energetic college ASL professor, and job coach for Deaf in learning how to communicate without using voice.

ASL I meets Thursdays, 6-8pm for 6 weeks, beginning Jan 4th thru Feb 8, 2018. Snow days will extend the schedule. (School closed Feb 22, if multiple snow days required.)

MAX 12 participants.  Cost is $75 per participants.
