DEVELOPING A PERSONAL AND HOME DEFENSIVE PROTECTION PLAN
This three-hour course is NOT about installingan alarm system. It is about adjusting your awareness around you as you move through your day and your home. It is about doing mental exercises to handle the “What if’s” to keep you and your loved ones safe. Learn situational awareness, conflict avoidance, and how to access your home’s defense.

Estate Planning
with Kathryn Bedell, Esq., York Adult Education
This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives. You will then explore how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can safeguard your assets from nursing home or MaineCare (Medicaid) liens. The discussion will also cover strategies to protect assets from life events such as business failure or the divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell, a lawyer based in York, Maine, will lead the class. With 31 years of experience, Kathryn specializes in estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matters.

Maine Driving Dynamics (Apr)
with Lori-Ann Mathews, Ellsworth Adult and Community Education
A Bureau of Highway Safety course aimed at improving a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities. The five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways.
The course format engages participants with a mixture of lectures, videos, and class discussion and participation. Upon completion, students will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Some insurance companies give discounts after completing this course, so check with your company for details. Please bring your driver's license to class. Class meets on Tuesday and Thursday. This is an in-person class.
Maine Death with Dignity Act

There is still a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option. Many providers and patients in Maine are still not familiar with Maine's Death with Dignity Act. In effect since September 2019, the law permits physicians to practice medical aid-in-dying under specific circumstances.
Join this class to get fact-based information details you need to know about Maine's law, how to have the conversation with your physician, and how to qualify for the law or support your loved one who may be qualifying. This is a live, online class using ZOOM.
Val was the grassroots leader and organizer from 2014 through passage of the law she co-authored in 2019. She is the founder and executive director of Maine Death with Dignity. Val believes people need good information to make good decisions. Val has been teaching adults in a variety of military and non-military organizations since 1981.

AARP Smart Driver
with Andrew Grant, Windham/Raymond Adult Education
The nation's first refresher course specifically designed for drivers aged 50 and older. In this simple format, brush up on your driving abilities and knowledge of traffic regulations. Driver distractions, using safety features on cars properly, left turns, right-of-way and roundabouts are some of the topics covered. There are also state-specific rules and regulations in 19 important areas such as construction zones, child safety seats, school buses, cell phone use and more. Help lower accidents and traffic penalties while learning something new.
