College and Career Advising

Are you thinking about making a change in your job or career? Are you considering going back to school for further training and education, but aren’t sure where to go? RSU 13 Adult Education can help! Our college and career advisor can meet with you to complete career assessments, research options that fit your needs and make a plan to reach your goal. If you are considering college and training programs, our instructors can help you improve your English and Math scores on the tests needed to gain admission. Welcome back to our returning students! Starting this year, we have a new system for enrolling and re-enrolling students.

RETURNING STUDENTS WHO ATTENDED LAST SCHOOL YEAR: If you had academic attendance in the last school year (July 1, 2022 – August 18, 2023 and / or September 5th - December 22n) then start by registering for this class. You’ll be contacted by a staff advisor or teacher who will schedule an appointment to help you re-enroll. We’ll work with you to update your goals, paperwork and contact information so that you can get back to work in the Learning Center. A member of RSU 13 Adult & Community Education staff will be in touch (after August 28) to schedule an advising re-enrollment appointment with you.

In addition, returning students need to take a CASAS assessment exam (unless you have attended class in the past 90 days). If you know for certain you had academic attendance last school year and would like to get a head start then you can schedule your CASAS exam by contacting Rebecca at rspitz@rsu13.org. These Proctored Exam Sessions are offered regularly by our Program Assistant in the 2nd Floor Computer Lab. RETURNING STUDENTS WHO DID NOT ATTEND LAST SCHOOL YEAR: If you have been a student in the past, but do not have academic attendance from last school year (July 1, 2022 – August 18, 2023) then you will be considered a new student in our enrollment process. Please register for High School Completion Information & Enrollment (START HERE)! You will need to attend just one of the session dates listed.

Gray-New Gloucester Adult Education also offers students the opportunity to work at home, at your own pace with HiSET Academy. Students can work on reading, writing, science, social studies and math to improve their skills. Using a combination of Zoom for direct instruction and HiSET Academy, students can prepare for all 5 subjects in the comfort of their own home. This option is available to students working toward a high school credential and/or preparing for college.

Students must complete the enrollment process to be eligible for these courses.

Our HiSET preparation learning labs are designed to help students preparing to take the HiSET in math, reading, writing, science or social studies.

Winter/Spring 2024 Schedule:

Mondays - 4pm to 7pm: Reading/Writing

Tuesdays - 1pm to 4pm: Math

Wednesdays - 4pm to 7pm: Math

Thursdays - 10:30am to 1:30pm: Reading/Writing

Students enrolled in this course have the opportunity to learn basic, everyday math skills, prepare for the HiSET math exam and/or brush up on math for college, in a relaxed, comfortable environment. If you have always found math to be struggle, join our math learning lab to gain more confidence. Our instructors assess students and develop individualized programs to meet your needs.

Tuesdays: 1pm to 4pm

Wednesdays: 4pm to 7pm

Students enrolled in this course will develop basic, everyday reading and writing skills in a relaxed, comfortable environment. This is a great course, designed to help brush up on communication skills, formatting for letters, reading texts for information and prepare for the HiSET. Students will learn about different types of text, author meaning, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. Join this class now to prepare for your future.

This open lab time will have an instructor to help you with your HiSET (high school equivalency test) prep work as well as career access advising. Earn your high school credential. Similar test to the GED.
